New Jersey Monthly recognized Mountainside as the ninth best place to live in September 2019. No wonder this beautiful town was ranked so highly. In contrast to other nearby towns, Mountainside has a different character. Mountainside's distinctively wooded ambiance is a draw for outdoor enthusiasts since public parkland comprises a third of the borough. People in the nearby communities of Mountainside, New Jersey, on the other hand, have more excellent room to go around. Six thousand seven hundred people live in Mountainside's 4 square miles scattered throughout the city. Mountainside shares a border with Union County's most prominent natural preserve, Watchung Reservation. There are also other interior displays at Trailside Nature and Science Center. Live animals, educational workshops, treks, bird watching, and campfires are part of the outdoor exhibits. With its winding bike trails and fishing pond, Echo Lake Park is also located in Mountainside. A dog park, paddle boats, and outdoor concerts are just some of the other attractions that can be found here.

Governor-Livingston High School has an excellent reputation for educating high school students in nearby Berkeley Heights. Mountainside is located alongside the slopes of Watchung Reservation and adjacent to Interstate 78, which borders the north area. Another thoroughfare that traverses the region is State Route 22 that connects to Plainfield City and Union County. Union County municipalities border Mountainside. Summit defines the community on the north, Springfield Township on the east, Westfield on the south, and Berkeley Heights and Scotch Plains on the west. There are plenty of leisure attractions that residents can visit if they reside in Mountainside. Among these include The Loop Playground, which is a 5-minute drive via West R Tracy Drive and New Providence Road, located 2.0 miles north of the area. Union County Openspace and Recreation Park is accessible in roughly 8 minutes by taking Summit Road and US 22. Brightwood Park is located 2.0 miles northeast of Mountainside and can be reached in approximately 6 minutes via US 22. Echo Lake Park is also accessible in roughly 6 minutes via US 22 and can be found 2.9 miles south of the area.
