Update Your Profiles and Online Presence

Dear Readers,
A good percentage of what I learned about Blogging came from Brad Andersohn at ActiveRain classes. Here's an "oldie but goodie"  from Brad about updating our info. One thing he stresses here is to be sure and find ALL the places that need updating! Some are not so obvious.

Brad wrote many posts and shared a lot of know-how and enthusiasm with us over the years. An early post, which brings in AR history, wishes one of the Founders of ActiveRain - Jon Washburn - success on his next job. Another great post explains About Blog Traffic and Stats. And just one more for now - "Gain a new technological skill everyday - or become obsolete!"

Brad headed the ActiveRain University and after another stop along the way, he formed the educational component of eXp Realty.

Now Retired (so to speak), Brad offers consulting services:

"I help any and all businesses create, build, and grow from a cloud-based 3D virtual environment. The Metaverse (as referred to these days) and virtual real estate spaces are in demand due to COVID. Unemployment numbers are at record highs. Many businesses and operations have gone remote. Now anyone and everyone can have a chance to make their come-back, maybe even save their business. Possibly even start a new one? Have a dream? I can and will help.

All the best - Lynn

Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall, there's a rumor he fell off and got broken. The reality is that Humpty Dumpty just moved away, found a new wall but no one knew because he didn't update his web profiles.

I was reading an article on FloridaRealtors.org about a study done by the WAV Group that stated:

"NEW YORK – Jan. 23, 2017 – According to an audit by the WAV Group, a real estate consulting firm, an average 10 percent of brokerages' online profiles are inaccurate or outdated." quote from article...

Having many profiles and social media sites myself, it made sense to go around the web this weekend and see just how bad it really could be? I'm ashamed of myself, more than 15% of my profiles were incomplete, out-dated or simply needed some attention and love.

My suggestion and advice to everyone reading this is to go "Google your name" to see what pops up first and make sure you update and edit everything in your search results.

Many agents and brokers make changes or move to different companies and get so excited about it, they forget to go around the web and update their important contact information. I had a couple profiles still showing that I worked for Zillow and one that said I was still a full time employee here in the rain.

All agents and brokers should begin now by identifying and then updating your pages and profiles starting with REALTOR.com, Facebook profile and pages, Homes.com, Zillow.com etc. While many of these sites get a boat-load of traffic, your incorrect information there could be sinking your boat.

(if you like co-branding as seen below and in links above, I can teach you the secret in another post...)

Zillow Co Branding

Realtor.com Co BrandingHomes Co Branding

Don't forget your Associations, MLS's and third party sites etc. as these too get missed during moves.

Let this be a friendly warning and nudge to all of us that changes are inevitable. Even a phone number or simple address change is enough to warrant your research and Internet presence updates.

Updating our profiles, is a good reminder, Lynn.  I recently needed to do that, and it took time.  I had forgotten the number of social media sites I had a presence on.  Ironically, I had neglected my email signature line until yesterday.  I had completely overlooked it.

Great reminder, Lynn... I've always been super diligent about updating all my profiles on the web when I've changed brokerages... but I know many agents totally forget to do this on a timely basis.

Thanks for stopping by! Now that you have OFFERED... Can you re-work the wonderful post you wrote about deciding the 3 years of paying rent was enough? The chart was "stolen by the AR Blog Gremlins" from the middle of the post!
