Moving into a new home is an exciting time. You get to choose where you want your furniture, how your kitchen should look, and what kind of bedding you'll need for the next few months. However, moving can also be overwhelming and stressful.
1- Organize Early
The more organized you are, the less stressed you'll be when you're moving. Start packing and organizing your things weeks or even months in advance. This will help to ensure that nothing is forgotten and that you have plenty of time to pack everything up properly.
You may want to have a checklist of items that you need to pack to avoid forgetting anything important.
2- Pack a Suitcase or Bag with Essentials
When you're moving, it's likely that you'll be busy and won't have time to unpack everything right away. That's why it's a good idea to pack a suitcase or bag with your essential belongings. Essential toiletries, a change of clothes, snacks, and a water bottle are all great items to pack.
If you have room in the car, take along some pillows and blankets for sleeping on the ride home. You'll be more comfortable this way, plus it will help cut down on how much time you spend setting up your bed when you get there.
3- Organize Professional Movers
Don't pack up every single item that you own yourself. Instead, contact professional movers to help with the process so you don't have to worry about anything and can focus on other things like your job or family members who may be helping out. Organizing professional movers is a great idea because they know how best to pack and transport your belongings to avoid being damaged in transit.
4- Take Breaks
Moving is exhausting, both physically and mentally. Make sure to take regular breaks throughout the day to give yourself a chance to relax and rejuvenate. You can even take snack breaks or relaxing breaks. Drink plenty of water, eat healthy foods, and get some exercise whenever possible. This will help keep you energized and motivated during the move.
5- Keep Your Kids Entertained
Moving can be a bit hectic when you have kids, especially when they're young children. Make sure to bring along some of the things that keep them occupied and happy, like toys, puzzles or games, so you can give yourself a break every now and then without worrying about what your child will be doing while they wait around.
If possible, let older kids help out during the move by packing up their belongings in boxes labeled with their names on them. Helping carry things outside to where all of your items are being kept for loading into trucks & moving vans, etc., this way everyone is involved within the process.
6- Declutter in Advance
Moving can be a great time to get rid of things you no longer need, use or want. Start decluttering your home during the weeks leading up to your move so that you'll have less stuff and more room when it comes time to load everything in trucks & moving vans.
Make sure you're only holding on to items that are important and useful; don't just hold onto clutter because "you might need it someday." You probably won't! Organize these items into boxes, so they aren't cluttering up any rooms while you wait for them to make their way out of your house completely. Declutter early enough, though, as some people say, if it's not worth keeping, then donate or sell it rather than storing it away.
