Thinking About an Electric Car?

I would guess that nearly everyone who drives has thought about purchasing an electric or hybrid car. I have. My best friend has a hybrid Honda Prius and I really like it but I've also wondered about a fully electric vehicle.

For over a year now or local electric  coop has been reporting on a Chevy Bolt they purchased and how it has performed. I wanted to share with you the latest report. What I like about their report is that this car is tested right here where our cold temperatures cut battery time/life in half.

Thanks for the great information. Yes, an electric car would be nice however for me know where I have long distances to drive to show ranches in rural parts of the state, the recharge issues are something that I do not want to worry about at this time. I am interested when the range is greater and recharging is plentiful and the cost of the vehicles is at least comparable.

Those are my concerns exactly Jeff Masich-Scottsdale AZ Associate Broker,MBA,GRI and when you take into account our temperatures rob almost half the batter life it's really scary.

Hi Bob- we've had a Toyota Prius since 2008 and we love it!!!  While I miss my Expedition that I used to have for staging I don't miss having to fill it up so much.

My friends hybrid is great Kathy Streib . It has wonderful acceleration and when it runs on gas it's recharging itself as well.

Bob I have not considered it and I recall that in the early days the batteries would not last... now I guess things have improved but still trying to find charging stations is a challenge.... good thing we do not go anywhere anymore so it could be an option:)Endre

I would guess that for the most part I would be fine just plugging it in at home Nina Hollander, Broker but should I chose to go out of town it's going to be an issue and even impossible in the winter. If I'm going to spend $40,000 or more for a car it better be able to get me 400 miles round trip without waiting an hour or more at a charging station.

I know I would love an electric as well Brian England if only I could drive a hundred miles and back without a charge but our cold weather robs half of the battery life as mentioned in the article.

Good morning Bob. An electric car is not on my radar at this time. While I don’t drive a lot, have taken a trip where I drove over a thousand miles in one day. No dead battery wanted here

Wayne Martin that is my issue as well. I drive to see Tina twice a year, 900 miles one way and then driving around the City of Milwaukee. How many hours am I going to spend in towns I don't want to be in just charging. I can fill my gas tank it 10 minutes.

Kat Palmiotti I really liked it because most reviews do not take into account our Northern winters nor do they test over a period of a year or greater as this one does.

I have not yet seriously considered an electric car.

I am happy with my Honda Accord and Dolores drives our very safe Mercedes.

I too am comfortable with what I drive Roy Kelley so I totally understand however it looks like this current administration make mandate we all have an electric vehicle in the not so distant future.

When it became difficult to find the car we wanted, we actually were ready to buy a Tesla even though we are not all that fond of the look of it..  There are lots of charging stations in town.  Our reservation has been if we drove long distances, we would both be nuts waiting for the charging part.  Luckily just then the phone rang, and the dealership found the car we wanted.  Next one will be a hybrid.  

Porsche has a beautiful all electric sports car, however the price was astronomical, $250,000.  LOL A

A quarter of a million is just out of reach for me A. Maybe if they knocked a zero out of there I could do it with a low interest loan. Thanks Ron and Alexandra Seigel .

BTW I think you two would be a lot more patient then me waiting for that charger. You have shown me your patience and I really, really admire you for it.
