Wordless Wednesdays…Night Visitors

We have a bright light that comes on at night when it detects movement in the yard.

One night we looked out the windows when the light popped on and look at our visitors!

We’re still trying to figure out how the one raccoon managed to get up to the feeding tray. We thought that maybe they picked one raccoon to climb on their backs and throw food down to the others.

How do you think the one raccoon got that high??

Kathy raccoons may look harmless but they can get very aggressive especially if you mess with their food.

Joan Cox oh no!!!   That's sad, but I guess that's the food chain.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel that's pretty destructive!!!  They look so cute but would not want them destroying my garden.

Raccoons are rodents and they do seem to be cute,,,,I know several people that have them as pets and I do not understand this. Raccoons are nocturnal and they have very poor vision....you can lose a finger feeding them snacks!!

I bet you both get a kick out of what pops up at night!  Reminds me of my brother who installed a motion censored camera on a deer blind in Kansas.  The animals were so innocent, eating and walking around.

Kathy they are amazing.... a few years ago a raccoon family came visiting our neighbor's home. They have a two story home and the family moved in the attic:)) the neighbors were pretty cool to it until they started destroying the roof and the windows.... they hired a relocation service.... fast forward a few years later three doors down from us a raccoon family is visiting our other neighbor.... they are amazing... We have raccoons around our home, living on a lake and some open land it's expected. They are persistent little critters! You are most likely right about them crawling on top of one another, I've seen them do this in attempts at getting to my bird feeder. We've had to trap and relocate many over the years, when they become nuisances and/or damage the home. They push up the soffit on homes to access the attic, build nests and keep warm, (in the few cold snaps we have in Florida). Not uncommon we're relocating 4-6 a year.

They went up the tree, over the limb and down the cord that you suspended them from.  I've seen squirrels do the same

Raccoons are cunning little creatures. They are cute as all get out, but can be quite the nuisances. Finnegan used to be afraid of them when he was a little pup. We'd say raccoon? and he'd run to the house. Lol. We also have a motion light and it's generally raccoons that set it off.

My brother and his wife have raccoons come up on the deck to eat the food dropped from their birdfeeders. They're interesting to watch but I wouldn't want to get between them and their food.

Great photos, Kathy. Racoons are so cute but they can be pretty mischievous and crafty.

One of our houses in New England was surrounded by woods and we often saw a raccoon under the bird feeder - our daughters named it Gertrude George since we weren't sure of the sex.
