SUN DOGS

I've written about this phenomena before but it's been awhile and those who have never lived in a Northern climate may not have ever heard of sun dogs before.

Sun Dogs, they are bright and beautiful BUT you don't really want to see them. The short story is that they are like little rainbow explosions but instead of moisture in the air (which causes rainbows) these are created by ice in the air and they only show up in sub-zero temperatures.

We started out our day with the temperature around 30 degrees above zero but it plummeted all day long to below zero. Currently as I write this the "feels like" temp is -29 degrees.

When you see sun dogs they are pretty but you may want to head South or at least head for a nice warm blanket.

I don't think that I have ever seen sun dogs either and I am with Wayne Martin that is ok with me, haha.

Kat Palmiotti I was pretty proud that I braved the cold to get a good picture BUT later in the evening I heard a new one... Moon Dogs! The weatherman said they are extremely rare because the moon is seldom bright enough to cause this phenonium. I wasn't about to go outside in my PJ's at 30 below to get a picture but I did look out the window at it.

That's a nice service to have Roy Kelley . I know it's available here and even delivery to the door but I have yet to check into it. With the ice we have I have been wearing overshoes with metal studs built into them. Considering my other health issues the last thing I need is a fall and break some bones. BTW, now, after many doctor visits they have determined that it is not sciatica but Stenosis. Similar but stenosis is a bit more sever.

Some days it's just best to stay inside Nina Hollander, Broker but that drives me stir crazy so I have to find some reason to get out even if for only 10 to 15 minutes.

Joan Cox my tolerance is zero. Below zero means getting out the thermals and avoiding the great outdoors. That being said I have to have some outdoor time every day... even if it's just 10 to 15 minutes.
