We woke up this morning to news that Buddist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh (pronounced Tik Not Hawn) died today at his home in Vietnam. He was 95. Both of us have always admired his messages of peace and mindfulness.
Outside sliding glass doors to our front deck, is a large bell we call, "The Zen Mindful Reminder." When one of us gets stuck in a mind or mood spiral, we walk out and give the gong a good pull.
Often, I (Debb) recite a Thich Nhat Hanh quote as the rich chime reverberates, "Breathing in, I calm body and mind. Breathing out, I smile. Dwelling in the present moment I know this is the only moment."
This morning, we are reminded of his view on death. "Birth and death are only notions. They are not real."
