I couldn't convince my 20 year old son to go on a photo walk with me today even though it was a balmy 10 degrees and the sun was shinning. I just don't know what it is with kids today 😃 (I think you all know I think Timmothy is the absolute best).

Instead of taking a walk we removed the screen to a backyard facing window and shot from there.

This fellow was on the "squirrel gym". The four corn cobs spin around so as to make it a test of will for the squirrel to get the corn without falling off.

This guy waited on the ground for what the guy above dropped down.

There were plenty of birds but I was focused on this little one.

We get a lot of joy out of it John Pusa . Even though we have a standard city lot we see deer from time to time along with the usual, rabbits, squirrels, racoons,,and birds.

Bob your poor squirrels need to eat corn in 10 degree temperatures... now on the other hand our squirrels eat Oranges in 70 degree temperatures:)Endre

Thank yiou A., with you keen eye for photography you know that means a lot to me. This morning I had a chance to photograph a bunny as well but it was still dark out so I knew it wouldn't turn out well even if he did stick around while I tried to get the window open.

I usually end up spending upwards of $100.00 a winter feeding the birds and squirrels. I figure I owe them that for their feasting on mosquitoes during the summer.

I really feel for our feathered friends Joan Cox . I know there are other food sources out there for them BUT when we are in sub-zero temps I want to make life a little easier for them if I can.

My first home had a squirrel in the attic Sam Shueh . I was smart enough back then to know it was a priority to get that squirrel out (I was 18 years old).

I put up a birdhouse with a base that had a ridge around it.  One day I was watching the bluebirds and the male flew up and perched on the ridge and did a thorough examination of the inside of the birdhouse.  In just a few minutes the female bird flew up and perched beside him and also looked into the house.  They sat there a few minutes and it looked to me like they were communicating in some way.  They flew off and in just a short while they came back with straw and started building their nest. I was amazed at how they had made the decision together on their new home.    It reminded me of watching my buyers make decisions on the purchase of their new homes.

Thank you Dorte Engel it is fun to watch them learn how to outsmart it... and they do! If the shaft from the tree to the spinning part was just 3" longer I think it would be more fun. Being a "tinkerer" I may have to check that out this spring/summer.
