As a Realtor®, one may say that I sell houses.
But what I do is give out information and educate.
Our contact info is on just about anything: websites, blogs, signs, business cards, flyers, a park bench, grocery carts, billboards, car wraps, magnets, for sale signs, and some have the info on their masks.
But we hear complaints about phone, text, or email alerts.
With that attitude, you are saying don't bother me!
When opportunity knocks, don't complain about the noise.
So what if you don't recognize the number? It could be a new buyer, seller, or someone wanting real estate information on your listing.
What's the worst that can happen, a telemarketer, wrong number, or a spam call. These are easy enough to delete.
You are judged by how you answer and how you respond. You don't get a second chance to make a first impression.
Some agents don't want to be interrupted, feeling the person can leave a message or text.
One agent trying to recruit me was very proud of NOT answering his phone. He said his assistant could check the voice mail later. He also bragged about how much time he took off; no calls after dinner had an administrator "run" his business. But when questioned about how many listings he had, it was minuscule less than a handful, certainly not enough to warrant a buyer's agent plus an administrative assistant.
He was proud of the personal time spent with family, travel, and sports. He was dressed to the nines and drove the latest model luxury car. So what's the problem? He needed business and was asking for advice.
My assessment was easy. This agent was starving; between his car payments, mortgage, advertising, entertaining, and very little income! By recruiting, he had the chance to make a bonus signing up other agents.
When opportunity knocks, don't complain about the noise.
My buyers and sellers have researched other agents. They share how they have called agents. They ask about price, availability, and condition. It is their way of "interviewing" agents. If they did not pass the above test, they did not need to have that agent in their home for a listing appointment.
I am a Realtor® who gives information and educates.
And you are not bothering me!
