Cloud cover will keep sounds down and allow you to hear the better. Waterway traffic sounds are different and somewhat soothing.

Hi Gloria- I love the sound of water! When we lived on a canal in Delray Beach, I often heard the mullet as they played or did whatever they do.

Hello Gloria - your words transport me to the sounds of the river. Thank you for allowing my mind to travel.

I would love to hear that! I spent three months on a training ship with merchant marine cadets and for some reason we were often in fog. That horn often sounded all night long, which wasn't great for sleep but it did have quite a unique sound.

We live in the hills above Camas and can hear the Little Washougal River most of the year, and see it through the trees. The Mighty Columbia River is about 10 miles from us, but we can hear ship's whistles and fog horns too at times. So cool, isn't it? Thanks for sharing this as it conjures up cool images and sounds of your area.

Gloria i love the sounds of running water. Living in the desert it's not something we hear often so that is why we have several water fountains on different patios. Nothing better than having the doors open an hearing the sound of running water!

Ed Silva yes water sounds can be soothing for sure.
Kathy Streib Living on a canal would be interesting with a lot of traffic too. THANK YOU FOR THE FEATURE! Much appreciated! Take care.
Michael Jacobs you are very welcome!
Kat Palmiotti gosh what a wonderful experience that must have been for you. Were you a cadet also? Sounds like some of the training was getting used to sleeping with new, constant sounds.

I was a civilian onboard and learned a lot! Sometimes we didn't get a lot of sleep, with the cadets clomping up the stairs near our cabin, and the fog horn, and people grabbing stuff from the passageway closet, and the dishes falling out of the mess deck cabinets when the ship rolled too much, and the cook cursing when that happened. Haha. Believe it or not, I'd do it all again.
Kat Palmiotti What a wonderful adventure! What part of the world were you traveling? How big was the vessel you lived on for 3 months? I believe you! I would be very open to such an adventure...but for a shorter period of time. Thanks for details!
Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD yes it is cool to hear such sounds. I bet your views are wonderful!
Grant Schneider yes Bucks County a wonderful part of the Delaware River! Did you ever see Washington's Christmas re-enactment on the Delaware River?
Ron and Alexandra Seigel the ocean is also full of wonderful sounds and smells. A good place to live.
So true Dorte Engel . There are still remnants of a canal further north alongside the Delaware River, talking about the past....
Anna Banana Kruchten CRS, Phoenix Broker fountains do the trick! Having less water is the trade off for living in such a beautiful location.
