Painting with oil has been something I've wanted to try for many years. My earliest work with paint was at Palmetto High School in 12th grade art class but I only worked with acrylics. A lot of folks think it's way to hard to paint in oil. I've found that I love the medium. First of all the paint doesn't dry as quickly and so it's easier to move around and blend. It's also a bit more forgiving.
Located right on South Court Square in the heart of Newnan is this amazing gem called Corner Arts https://www.facebook.com/cornerarts. Jenny, who is my awesome painting teacher (she offers classes weekly for anyone interested in exploring their artistic talents). The shop features a wide variety of arts and crafts from local artisans including herself. If you are ever at the Newnan Square, this is a must stop. Everyone loves locally produced arts and crafts and so it's a terrific place to visit for gifts.
I've decided I will be painting and creating art works about local places and things. The picture I just completed is a scene of the Flint River canyon at Sprewell Bluff Park www.sprewellbluffpark.com South of Newnan about an hour (48 miles) between Manchester and Thomaston. It features hiking trails, a boat ramp for rafting, a campground and gift shop.
Obviously with Fall you are going to get plenty of color to work with. I took the picture in November of 2021 and this is what I worked off of. My current project is also a Fall setting at Lake Summer Grove. Fun fun fun. I encourage everyone to support the local arts community. Also as Spring approaches we will see Market Days www.mainstreetnewnan.com/p/events/the-market-day return on Saturdays where local Artisans and vendors feature and sell their goods right on the square.
