delaire Landing hawk

Delaire Landing has beautiful wildlife that we share our grounds with. The other day I saw it catch a snake and start to eat it as I was walking. It grabbed the snake and flew up into the tree to finish lunch. I often see this hawk perched and tell Cleo she is not to go outside as I am sure she would love to grab a small cat if the opportunity arose . This is a beautiful hawk I really enjoyed watching in silence

Hannah, you definitely don't want to let Cleo escape, that hawk would be all too happy.

Nice capture Hannah Williams by both you and by the hawk. How cool that you had your camera/phone handy. The best I've done is to focus in on one sitting on a hay bail.

Bob "RealMan" Timm The hawk must have been very hungry to allow me to get that close and I was speaking to it very softly when it was done it flew away

Just loved the photo Hannah, on a side note none of our cats are allowed to go outside, Jill always cries when either Diane or I are outside with Holly, she wants to join the party:)Endre

Endre Barath, Jr.  Cleo is not allowed outside either. Sometimes when I have the slider open and bring groceries in  she steps outside I scold her to get inside and she does .

The hawks are quick and have super sharp eyes. Very little can escape them

You are so right Ed Silva  that is why it frightens me when Cleo steps outside one large swoop and she would be gone forever

Nice photo! I saw a hawk after it swooped down to catch a rabbit - I saw it flying away with the rabbit hanging from its talons. Nature is so interesting.

Good morning, Hannah... as majestic as they might be, hawks give me the willies. I've heard of many a cat and small dog being whisked away by hawks in our area. My cats never go out and fortunately they won't go after a 50 pound dog.

Hannah,

We see magnificent hawks often.  And we also see the crows chasing them.  It is a fun scene as some of the crows are bigger than the hawks and three of them all join the chase. A

OH WOW, Hannah! I saw this pic on IG and it reminded me when we realized we had a hawk family residing in one of our backyard trees, our Charlotte never was allowed outside again! We had a 'pet proof' fence (6' with tight rails the fur babies couldn't squeeze through) and Charlotte had no front claws. So, we let her out often in the fenced yard. We lived at that house about 3 months before we saw those hawks and poor Charlotte was never allowed out again! Those talons are SCARY, aren't they?!

Happy Sunday! See you on Tuesday!

Debe Maxwell, CRS  That has been my nightmare since I have moved . I see that hawk sitting in the tree such a magnificient  creature but those eyes and talons are sharp. Thankfully Cleo listens and runs right back indoors

That's a great photo, Hannah.

We have plenty of hawks where we are. I don't mind them going after snakes or mice, but wish they would leave the other birds alone. I saw one last summer flying up to its nest with a snake in its mouth - pretty funny to see.
