This month's challenge is to up your game on one important element of your sales funnel. We're going to have you take a look at and update your blog signature. The blog signature is what they see immediately after they have just read your post under the "Posted By" subheading.
If a person has just dropped in out of the Google SERP sky and has completed one of your fantastic blog posts. What next? Well your blog signature had better give them exactly what they need. Do they want to read more from you? Help them! Do they want to call or email you? Don't miss that opportunity. Do they even know where you are located? Make sure you tell that and what you do so they can connect with you as something that fits their need.
Whether you are a newbie on the site or have been here more than a decade, this challenge is for you! When you are done, you will have taken one step to help show yourself the professional that site visitors will want to work with.
I have written a blog post designed to help you with the blog signature process. "How to Create an Effective Blog Signature" has instructions and also a demonstration video that can help you design and compose a signature step by step. You blog signature does NOT need to look exactly like the basic template that I set up. You can use that layout if you wish or another look, but the basic essential elements of a good signature that I outline in that post should be there.
If you would like to include Social Media icons in your signature, my recent post "Social Media Icons in Your Blog Signature" can help you do that.
For updating your blog signature and sharing the before and after post with us, you will be awarded 2,000 points.
Important: Before you remove the old signature and replace it with the new one, be sure and create a screenshot of your old one first! The challenge will require a blog post where you show what the old one looked like compared to the new one. So it will be a before and after post. I'm sure we'll be inspired by these posts and the transformations that took place. Here's a post How to do a Screenshot if you want a refresher on that step.
In the post you will give a short description about what you decided to include (or omit) in your new signature. What were some of the challenges that you faced in doing the update and how did you solve them? (By sharing these thoughts, others can learn and be encouraged to do their own update).
In your post, briefly discuss two of your goals for 2022 for your web presence. What kinds of other things would you like to have polished in your online portfolio? Are you going to add more posts in social media, or perhaps refine down to fewer social sites and do fewer ones better. Are you going to work on your Wordpress website? (maybe you want to finally CREATE a Wordpress website). Are you going to try and do a bigger variety of blog post types (other than just getting in a market report only rut). Perhaps you want to try your hand at video and finally make a YouTube dent. Putting a couple of your next goals in a writing may help you to get momentum started!
So here's a quick checklist to follow for the challenge:
- Review the "How to Create an Effective Blog Signature" post for the essential points of what your blog signature needs to have
- Screenshot as a saved image file what your "before" blog signature looks like
- Create a draft post where you compose what your new signature will be (this may take a few days, save it as you go)
- When completed, paste your new signature into Blog Settings to become your new signature.
- Screenshot your "after" blog signature as a saved image file.
- Create a blog post where you show your before signature and your after signature so we can see the transformation.
- The post should have a minimum of 500 words describing your signature update and two additional web goals that you want to achieve in 2022.
- Come back to this post and leave a comment with a link to your challenge post.
Real Pros stand out from the crowd. Don't stand still. What steps are you going to take to make a more outstanding web presence?
This challenge will hopefully incentivize you to take the time needed to make this important update that will be a benefit to you.
Eileen Burns helped formulate the plan for this month's challenge so she and I will be co-hosting it and encouraging you in your participation. We look forward to seeing your submissions!
