The company that paid for their faces on their wine bottles is 19 crimes. 19 crimes is a California company whose wine is sourced from Australia. They are owned by Treasury Wine Estates headquartered in Australia. Treasury Wine Estates also owns some prestigious wine labels in Napa, like Beringer and Etude.
Each label has the criminal's face and the story of their crime on the back label. Why Australia? Their site refers to the time when the British loaded their criminals on a boat headed to Australia. Not all who made the arduous trip, survived.
"The men featured on our wine labels are not those of fiction. They were flesh and blood. Criminals, artists and scholars. In history, they share a bond – receiving "punishment by transportation" for violation of one of 19 crimes and becoming the first settlers of a new nation." And now, they have a woman also!
The wine reviews are favorable. It falls in the category of affordable and easy to drink table wine akin to Yellow Tail, another Australian brand. There are many wines in this category in the same price range in all the countries that produce wine.
We have not tried the wine, only read the reviews from independent critics who do not sell wine, nor are paid to review wines.
