My Window To Spring

By

Well it's time for me to assemble my little greenhouse, like the ones pictured above, so I can maximize my Spring pleasure. My little green house is my window to watch Spring  go by.

It's pretty rare that someone from the "North Coast" doesn't get Spring fever around this time of year and I certainly am beginning to experience it myself.

I try to get the most out of my Spring by setting up a portable greenhouse on my deck with a little space heater in it so I can spend some of my spare time in it blogging with you. This year I will have a little bit of a challenge. The frame has out lived the vinyl and it seems I can purchase the whole thing cheaper than just the vinyl. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about it but one way or another I'm going to watch Spring arrive and make it last as long as possible.

Another alternative I have is my (now adult) daughters playhouse Laura Cerrano but then I would not get as much natural light.

I think spring is a welcome season, especially these past couple years.  I notice my trees are beginning to show signs of sprouting.  It won't be long now.

I really watch those buds Myrl Jeffcoat but I don't expect to see any change for another month yet.

Good morning Bob. Can't wait for a string of warmer days to set up my west balcony. It is my greenhouse of sorts and my grandson loves to play out there. May your greenhouse be ready for occupancy soon.

Sounds like we share the same anticipation Wayne Martin . Just three or four in a row whould raise my spirits greatly.

Yes they are (nice play on words) Michael Jacobs . I discovered I could get out there right now if I use Tina's play house but I am still going to resurrect that greenhouse as soon as the weather allows.

Getting spring fever sounds a lot better than getting valley fever, haha.  I think you will build a wonderful greenhouse.

Sounds better to me as well Brian England even though I don't know what valley fever is.... do you want to fill me in?

Extending spring is always a worthy endeavor.  Sorry to hear that the vinyl has given out.  It will be fun to see what you grow.

I have been forced to grow veggies by my little bride for 25 years now so this year I'm risking the wrath of my bride and growing the flowers I've always loved growing.

Thanks Nina Hollander, Broker . In the past photography didn't work well when shot from inside the greenhouse because the skin was not totally transparent but here is my chance to improve that.

Bob, this sounds like a great system.   I have kept flowers from years past, and wheel them in and out of the garage.

Hi Bob- I can't wait to see your photo of your green house when you get it set up. When we lived in Northern VA, I came close to getting one for my orchids. At the time it was easier for me to bring them all in for the colder months.

I will take pictures Kathy Streib but it's going to look like the ones in the banner above.... with a few custom modifications 😃.

How ironic that it is less expensive to buy a new contraption than fix the old one.... that is the American way, knowing you Bob you explored alternative options to get it done.... needless to say hurry up before Spring is gone:)Endre

It is crazy Endre Barath, Jr. It's like they are saying that the steel frame has no value and the cost of shipping is the same even with 30 pounds of steel added?????

It is always interesting to hear about differences in areas. Spring has sprung in NC. We may have another cold front come through but it is absolutely gorgeous here. I spent much of the weekend showing homes. It was so pleasant being outside without a jacket or with just a light jacket on. Yesterday my husband & I had lunch outdoors and last night we went for a walk. We actually broke a sweat. We had our windows open some this weekend. I'm enjoying it before we have the big pollen drop and everything turns yellow.

Hi Bob I totally get wanting a little bit of spring ASAP as I grew up in MN.  A green house is a great idea on your patio.....I can see many uses for it as well.  Good luck on putting together your new plan.  And.....do share a photo!!

Mar 07, 2022 09:08 AM

Yup, there is little difference between a ND spring and a MN spring Anna Banana Kruchten CRS, Phoenix Broker . Even when I am blogging from the greenhouse I do use it to start plants but I have had limited success due to some really hard frosts. I will take some pictures when I get it assembled.
