Critters Found Along Some Golf Courses

We are making our way back to CT just not in a rapid way. While taking a few days on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina I stole off to try and beat up the South Carolina golf courses.

The particular course I tried had an abundance of wildlife. The birds were all over and with a lot of water that allowed for a different type of resident.

These were just off the fairways, so caution needed to be exercised and constant vigilance.

I worked real hard to stay center of fairways and if a ball took a curve, I reached into my pocket for another

Hello Ed - there's a good reason to take your time on the way home.  Pause.   Explore.  Discover.  Enjoy your detour.

That is a really big bad boy, Ed!  Like you, I'd be prone to reaching in my pocket rather than chase a wandering ball.

What lovely pictures.  I love blue herons, it is a bird we see quite often around here.  And there are those other critters, where it is wise to use another ball.  A

George Souto   It is not uncommon for them on Hilton Head but they seemed a bit braver than in the past.

Joan Cox   In this area both the golf courses and the alligators are easy to find.

Kathy Streib   I didn't see any gators in FL but they are plentiful on Hilton Head Island

Michael Jacobs  Our wanderings are coming to an end and we'll be back to the grind shortly.

Myrl Jeffcoat  Exactly and of course there should be no penalty for the gator hiding the golf ball

Ron and Alexandra Seigel   There are so many birds, and we will see them with their wings extended possibly to dry them off

I would not want to come across that critter on the golf course.  I might enjoy watching it do its thing if I were in a place where it could not get near me, haha.

It is a good idea to keep your balls in the fairway.

Good morning, Ed... I must admit that whenever I've been anywhere with warnings to watch out for critters like alligators, I am very uncomfortable.

I could definitely have a challenge on those golf courses. I'm not good at wrestling alligators

HI Ed Silva - I am going to take a guess and say that you didn't spend much time looking for a lost golf ball or two! It appears you had a lot of fun.  Good for you!

Ed, has there been incidents with those alligators on the golf course?  I would give up golf!

Wow! Ed Silva those are some big critters to watch out for LOL. In CA the critters we need to avoid on golf courses are

1. rattlesnakes

2. mountain lions and

3. the "rate of play" marshals 😄

Ed Silva - I loved this post! I started out with an oooh to wide-open eyes! My last house was in walking distance to a 9-hole golf course and I miss that opportunity to be one with the golf ball and closer to nature. But those alligator photos surprised me! I think I would have to think twice about getting that close and personal to a gator but I know I would still enjoy taking photographs like you did!

Thanks for your great post today! You made me more awake this Saturday morning and happy!

My goodness Ed! What a great motivator to stay focused on center fairway.  And yes the first purchase in the club house would be an extra dozen balls for yours truly.  lol  m

I am not a golfer. I am aware that when there is talk about a hazard on a hole of a challenging course in California, the issue is probably not an alligator.
