Featured Images Now Officially Required for Featured Posts
Last February, Ben Kinney presented an exciting update during our ActiveRain ZOOM meeting - it truly was one of our best meetings yet! The new format had just been rolled out and Ben was eager to hear the member's opinions of the changes.
One of the biggest changes Ben mentioned was that the feature board was going to look crisp, clean and would be set up in a format with a photo on the left of each featured post. (Take a look at the feature board.) With that update, the plan was to ascertain our feature board would have a uniform 'look' which includes the featured image beside every featured post.
ONE YEAR LATER - We've been through many changes and the site is running so much better than a year ago. We are now making the feature graphic a requirement so that we can be set up for Ben's dream 'real estate news site.'
The 'feature fairies' will now ONLY be selecting posts for the feature board that contain a featured image.
How do you add a featured image?
Easy peasy! Simply click on the Featured Image "CHOOSE FILE" button, to the LEFT, just below the Title of your post. A window will open for you to select a file FROM YOUR COMPUTER FILES (not your ActiveRain media library).
Locate and click on the file you wish to use and VOILA! Your featured image is THERE.
*TIP - Try to upload featured images, taken horizontally. A great 'blog' sized photo/graphic is ideally 1200 X 800 (length X height).
It's so much easier than adding images within your post! If you don't want to use another image in your post, you don't really need one - this one shows up at the top of your post once the post is published.
For short posts, this is ideal if you only have a few minutes to post something. It literally takes only seconds!
Give it a whirl! The featured image option is SUCH a time-saver! Remember, the feature fairies will be looking for featured images in our posts.
