"A book is a gift you can open again and again.

-- Garrison Keillor

Did you know that Charlotte's Ballantyne area has an active Book Club which meets monthly? If you love reading good books and discussing them, you might want to join the Ballantyne Book Club. The 2022 reading list includes a mix of fiction, classic books, and non-fiction... something for everyone and anyone who loves to read. And you don't need to live in Ballantyne to participate.

“Sleep is good, he said, and books are better.”

Until further notice, all Ballantyne Book Club events are virtual over zoom. The Ballantyne Book Club does ask for an RSVP. When you RSVP you'll receive an email link to join the Zoom Meeting.

I remember as a kid, belonging to the "bookworm club" at the local library and receiving a star on the bookworm for every 10 books I read.

I love to read and reading more than ever now.

I am definitely not much of a reader but perhaps down the road sometime I will learn to enjoy it.

faye schubert hi Faye... I find nothing more relaxing than curling up with a good book that I can get "lost in."

Nina Hollander, Broker - We share a common interest in reading. I'm a member of a Book Club and I enjoy it very much. If I lived in Charlotte, I would definitely join the Ballantyne Book Club. I have The Paper Palace and the Cloud Cuckoo Land purchased and waiting for me to read. "The Space Between Us," sounds very familiar. I read so much, I'd have to check my book shelves to see if I read it. Currently, I'm reading The Radio Operator by Ulla Lenze. My favorite author I discovered because of the Book Club is Kristin Harmel. The Book of Numbers and The Winemaker's Wife are exceptional if you're interested in stories about the German invasion during WW11.

I love reading, but find it hard to read to a schedule for a club, just prefer to set my own timetable and enjoy what comes across my path.

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 same here, Nick. Plus, so long as all the book clubs stay virtual, I'm not a fan of that medium.

Hello Nina - I have never joined a book club but your post reminds me of a quote attributed to Groucho Marx - "I don't want to belong to a club that will accept me as a member".   Although, I doubt a bibliophile would express such a sentiment, that's where my mind went.  🙃    I remember (maybe they continue today too) when cities and communities would "adopt" a book as part of a reading effort.

Nina the Ballantyne Book Club sounds like a great club for local residence to join.  As for me, I have never been much of a reader.  I more of a picture kind of guy.  🤣

Thank you for sharing those great quotes that depict my exact thoughts about reading. I read to my oldest grandson every night on his Alexa. We get at least one or two chapters in each night of the Hardy Boys Mysteries. It is my special time with him 🙂

Michael Jacobs hi Michael... I had not ever heard of that concept of a city "adopting" a book. Sounds like a great concept... but I can just see the arguments about which book to select.

Well, it was during times that seemed less combative.

Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS good morning, Paul... that may be the best use of Alexa I've heard about yet! When our grands were small and living far away, we had no such tools... but I sent lots of books for Christmas and birthday presents. Their mother and I trade books all the time. Carol sends me what she's read and I send her what I've read.

Kathy Streib good morning, Kathy... totally with you on that! I've loved to read since I first learned to read and I look forward to doing a bit of non-business related reading every day.
