I have been told to stop! In my mom's voice " your personal life should be personal and not for the world" haha.
I always blog about my personal life, from marital issues to our exciting times e.g. Anniversaries, traveling, new endeavors etc.
I love my blog as a creative outlet and it is cathartic for me however; lately, there has been a lot of personal life drama going on in my family that I have been hesitant to write about because;
a)It's still raw,
b)I don't want people feeling sorry for me and
c)I am not sure if it is anyone's business but mine (even though this contradicts my initial response).
So I get why some people might not be into blogging about their personal life especially if it is wrought with drama but for me, I am still on the fence.
Should I Stop?
So, the question is, should you blog about your personal life? I believe the answer really depends on what you are hoping to achieve by blogging.
If you are looking for a way to share your thoughts and experiences with others, then blogging about your personal life can be a great way to do that.
However, if you are looking for feedback or advice, it may be better to focus on topics that are more general in nature.
My best friend doesn't like me writing about my personal life e.g. marriage or children, but she writes about her pet and believes this isn't personal.
She loves her pets like they are her children and posts pictures of them constantly on her FB page.
I have always argued that writing about your pet is personal. You are giving insights into your life, daily go on, etc. through the lens of your pet. I think this is a valid perspective.
(What are your thoughts on blogging about your personal life through your pets?)
My husband doesn't mind me blogging about my personal life, so long as it doesn't negatively affect our relationship with people we know.
But my mom! She definitely thinks I should stop. She argues that some things are better left private.
I remember blogging about my failed dating attempts in the past, and how it was cathartic for me.
I wasn't looking for feedback or advice, I just wanted to share my experiences with others who may have gone through something similar.
My mom was definitely not happy about that, I guess it was my fault for sharing my website deets with her (haha). I have since shielded her from my blog, but she always asks about it.
Bottom Line:
I believe whether or not to blog about your personal life is a personal decision. If you feel comfortable sharing your experiences and thoughts, do it!
Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to blog about your personal life is up to you.
If you feel like it is something you want to share with others, go for it!
But remember to be mindful of the feelings of those around you, and don't share anything that you aren't comfortable sharing.
I hope you are all looking forward to the weekend! I am, it has been a long week.
Enjoy your day!
