This Week…Taking the High Road
My Aunt Berda always said, “Never stoop.” When you’re 9 years old, it takes a while to process that. What the heck does that mean? She was only about 5 feet tall so did it have anything to do with that?
How beautiful is it to stay silent when someone
expects you to be enraged? (Unknown)
My journey through life has shown me exactly what she meant.
This week there was an opportunity to see an example of taking the high road. While some may argue that it was staged or that there was a fear on one person’s part of repercussions from others, doesn’t matter.
Weak people revenge. Strong people forgive. Intelligent people ignore.
Albert Einstein
There are times when events and life call upon us to take a stand…step up to the plate…say that nasty thought.
And there are other situations when no matter what our moral compass may be telling us…when social norms might say it’s ok to do what we’d like to do…the mature side of us says…Take the High Road.
Take the high road. There’s a lot less
traffic up there. Dr. Phil McGraw
Of course, what we do is our choice to make. I can’t tell someone they should or should not have “stooped.” However, whatever we do says a lot to the world about who we are.
Never argue with a fool; onlookers may not be able to tell the difference. Mark Twain
