Illustration of What ActiveRain Means to Me

By
Real Estate Agent with DFW FINE PROPERTIES 0506509

This blog post is dedicated to the members of ActiveRain. Its purpose is to add clarity through illustrations of what AR means to me. Thanks Debe Maxwell, CRS and Margaret Rome for the April 2022 Challenge.

As a Newbie, I really didn’t know or understand what a BLOG was but I was thankful when ACTIVERAIN offered RAINCAMP to members in 2010 the year I began blogging. I took a dive and the plunge, driving from Dallas-Fort Worth to Houston. This was a big deal to me. I’m not originally from Texas. I was relocated from Illinois. I learned quickly in my real estate career before navigational systems, looking at the BIG TEXAS SIZE MAPSCO was quite overwhelming!

Driving to Houston was a longer trip than I anticipated. But boy was it worth it! The first person I met was Kerrie followed by Joni Bailey. Later that day, after shaking the hand of Bob Stewart it was as if I touched the golden hand, and I was on my way to achieving great success and prosperity.

Over the years I learned a lot about what the word BLOG meant to me. Let me illustrate:

B is for belonging

L is for learning

O is for being open-minded

G is for giving

ActiveRain contributes to my sense of belonging, learning, being open-minded, and giving something of value to others. Having a sense of belonging is what I longed for when I left the Corporate World. Sales is hard work. Being self-employed without being born into a real estate family or being on a Franchise Team, and choosing to be a single agent paved the way to curiosity, knowledge, decision-making, inventiveness, creativity, and giving back to the community. What I learned is that by meeting and interacting with like-minded people creates balance thinking and being open minded helps me to grow mentally, physically, and emotionally. In my life, I have no time for being judgmental or to point out errors to other bloggers on ActiveRain. I care enough to contact them directly and say things in a nice way because I know, I'm not perfect.

ActiveRain is a lot like a Travel Map. This is what it means to me. You get to know a lot of people from different states, cities, including your own. For every blog post I write, I embark on a new journey and every time I read or comment, I am discovering, rediscovering, or learning something new.  A great way to demonstrate who you are is by meeting up when time permits, calling other members on the phone, participating and commenting too. It didn’t take me long to realize, ActiveRain is a meaningful journey. Clearly, ActiveRain is part of my life story. My heart overflows with gratitude ---Patricia Feager

Endre Barath, Jr. - It did not take long for me to yearn to become a bigger part of the real estate industry and the perspectives I received from the people from ActiveRain who I connected with bridged the gap of what I was missing. Also, I always appreciate familiar faces and their writing styles and I am eager to learn more from those intriguing Newbies who come into my life through ways of AR.

Hello Patricia - the ActiveRain atlas can be intimidating to a newcomer in similar ways as a relocated person to a new state.  Like your move to Texas you jumped in to this puddle "feet first".  Or should I say "feat first"?

Michael Jacobs - Whether it's "feet first" or "feat first," that is what anyone relocating, moving, or starting new is faced with and the best advice I can give is to stay motivated! Get moving! Have courage! Ask what's in it for you?

What we need when faced with new situations is support, positive reinforcement, and accepting the challenges that are presented that are out-side the box. For me, AR was definitely out-side the box!

I never wanted to be a sheep and stay local. I was born to travel, live, and learn whether it was through reading books at the library, continuous education, or finding my wings to fly and learn. For me, intimidation is poison to the soul. What amazed me about AR is that it never shuts down and there are people 24/7.

I love this post Patricia! And your photos are wonderful. Meeting people "live" after getting to know them on an online site can be amazing. I love that you still have your raincamp ID and "let it rain" shirt. Thank you for sharing and enjoy your Friday!

Kat Palmiotti - You are so right! I'm glad we met live too! For me, saving the T-Shirt and my RainCamp name badge was worth it. Best souvenir too! I appreciate your comment on my photos and YOU too. Thanks!

Nina Hollander, Broker - Your comment meant a lot to me. Thanks for recognizing my efforts. I appreciate it very much and you too!

So cool that you got to attend Raincamps, I never got the opportunity to attend one.  There was something going on in my area one time but I was not available that day.  Looking back, I should have canceled whatever I had scheduled already and attended the ActiveRain event instead.

Brian England - I think if we knew RainCamp was going to end and there were a few opportunities left, many would have attended. You certainly made up for it by having the drive to make the drive to Meet Ups and personal get-togethers with members which seems to be a lot more meaningful! You're incredible.

I was re-reading and see that you commented below my comment - sorry I missed it! We are STILL trying to get the developers to alert the commenter when those replies ('after comments') are made in response to ours.

I was not aware that Bob returned years later but, how cool was it that you got to spend more time with him and as a bonus, got to meet Sharon Parisi too! This platform has brought us SO much more than just 'blogging for bucks,' hasn't it?!!

Thanks again for your entry in this month's challenge. I love every bit of it!

Debe Maxwell, CRS - I know how hard the developers are working. They are doing as best as they can and I appreciate them very much. As for responses and comments it has been confusing to me because just when I think I am commenting correctly I felt as if I was being spanked by someone other than a developer for doing something incorrectly. I was left with sadness and often shamed.

Hi Patricia:

What a wonderful journey you have had in the blogging world an AR. The collages are very cool and say so much...more than 1000 words. I'm so glad I've gotten to know you, and even better had the chance to meet in Dallas a few years ago!
