Being HUGE Boston Red Sox fans, we are closely following the negotiations that the team has going with the City of Sarasota. If all goes well, the team will soon be moving their spring training to beautiful Sarasota, Florida. We feel that not only will this move make us incredibly happy to be able to see our beloved Red Sox play without having to travel huge distances, it will also tremendously boost our local economy. With team members, staff and fans as loyal as those like Jimmy Falon in Fever Pitch, the Sarasota / Bradenton is a mecca for opportunity - especially for those seeking real estate. Now is, by far, the best time for those Red Sox out-of-towners to secure a new place to call home during the Spring Training season.
Needless to say, we are anxiously awaiting any new information that comes along regarding the negotiations and are hoping to see Sarasota "Red Sox Nation" grow even more! Here's the latest news that we read on the Bay News 9 web site:
SARASOTA (Bay News 9) -- Sarasota County and city leaders have confirmed to Bay News 9 they are negotiating with the Boston Red Sox.
The team currently holds its spring training in Fort Myers but may be moving to Sarasota. Bay News 9 is told the Red Sox can opt out of their current lease in 2009.
City officials say they're currently discussing whether they'd play at Ed Smith Stadium (the current home of the Cincinnati Reds, who are moving their spring training to Arizona), or build them a new facility.
Other possible stadium locations include the Sarasota County fairgrounds on Fruitville Road, near downtown.
Local supporters like Sarasota resident and Boston Red Sox fan Teo Sanchez think the team will hit a home run. "Boston Red Sox is one of the favorite teams," he said. "So I believe they'll bring a lot of people here. They're champions."
Sarasota County commissioner Joe Barbetta said they hope to have a final decision in the next 30 to 60 days.
