DONUT FRENCH TOAST RECIPE

Stack of Donut French Toast

PREP TIME10 minutes
ADDITIONAL TIME15 minutes
TOTAL TIME25 minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • 2/3 cup half-and-half
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 8 stale donuts, sliced in half
  • powdered sugar and maple syrup for serving

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the half-and-half, eggs, honey, vanilla extract, cinnamon and salt.
  2. Over medium-low heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large nonstick skillet.
  3. Quickly dip donut halves into mixture (do not let soak like traditional french toast – donuts soak up the custard mixture crazy fast), and then place in skillet.
  4. Cook a couple slices at a time and cook until golden brown, approximately 2 to 3 minutes per side. Repeat with all donut slices.
  5. Serve immediately with powdered sugar and/or maple syrup.

Good morning, Will... sounds like an interesting recipe... can't say I've ever had or will have that many stale donuts in my house, however. :)

Good afternoon Will,

You never cease to amaze me with all your offerings for such tempting treats! I don't keep donuts in the house so I'll probably have to pass on this recipe!

Hi Will- sounds like a very special breakfast!!!  In our house, there would never be any donuts left over to become stale.

Hello Will - maybe this is incentive to check out the "day old" section in the bakery department.

Those certainly look delicious and I like that honey and maple syrup is used instead of processed sugar.

I am with Kathy Streib - there are never any stale donuts in my house - but maybe Michael Jacobs has the right idea with the day old section!
