About 5 years ago The Newnan Linc trail project began and has since progressed nicely to include a completed stretch from the Newnan court square through C.J. Smith Park, East through the woods and near a stream across Interstate 85 through some more woods near the Newnan Center and into Summergrove golf course and housing development.
A community benefits from a trail system in many ways. First it's what is called a "linear park" providing park access across a wide area that may not otherwise have access to the recreational opportunities provided. The trail also provides a nice alternative form of transportation, a means for exercise and obvious recreation activities, but also promote improved community health along with associated health care cost savings. Another benefit is contribution towards helping maintain and boost home values.
More information regarding the planning and proposed sections of this trail system is available at: https://friendsoflinc.org/ The trail is a pleasure to ride on. It's paved or made of concrete and is 12 feet wide through the entire pathway providing a safe pathway for bikes and pedestrians going either direction.
From where I live out by East Summergrove at Heritage Ridge I am able to follow the pathway along Summergove Parkway and catch the trail head over by the Marketplace and ride the 6 1/2 miles or so into the square in about half an hour or so. There are ample areas to take rests if you need one, complete with benches and garbage cans. The trail isn't fully complete yet between Ashley Park and Greisen Trail but it's getting there.
