Top Tips for a Stress Free Move

Industry Observer with Spectrum Communications

Moving to a new home can be a stressful task.  You may have already gone through all the fun that goes along with selling a home: negotiating on price, fixing electrical issues, addressing that squeaky door or leaky faucet… you know the stuff.  When it comes to finally moving into your new home, you want the process to be as seamless as possible.  Follow these 4 tips to ensure your move goes smoothly.

  • Make a donate/throw away pile.  The first step in moving should be to take a catalog of all of your stuff and determine what items might not be worth bringing to the new place.   Find a local donation center for any items that may still have some value to someone.  These boxes should be separated from the moving boxes and labeled properly to ensure they make it to their destination amid the chaos of moving.
  • Label all boxes appropriately by room and contents. This will ensure that your professional long distance moving company knows where to set boxes in the new home upon arrival.  It will also help you prioritize which boxes need to be opened on day 1 vs what can wait a week/month/several years before being opened.
  • Have everything packed up and staged for loading prior to the local moving company’s arrival at your home.  Many movers will bill at an hourly rate, and if they are waiting on you to finish packing, those hours may be billed.
  • Pack some cleaning supplies in your vehicle for quick access.  Depending on conditions, you may want to tidy up after your movers have completed unloading the truck into your new home.  Having quick access to the cleaning basics will ensure that you can get your home ready easily and efficiently.

Moving to a new home doesn’t have to be stressful.  Following these simple quick tips will ensure you have a joyful moving experience.
