Exploring The Hudson Valley - Storm King Mountain Trail

By

Allowing for some 'me time', I visited Storm King Mountain for a day of hiking. For those of you who are based out of Queens, NY, or NYC, the trip up to Strom King Mountain is about a one-hour drive (not too bad!). This trailhead is located off of Mountain Ave.

I dub this part of the hike (following the blue/yellow trail), the wisdom tree :) It reminds me of a hike I used to commonly trek when living in California.

For those who will enjoy some rock scrambling, you'll find a bit of that while hiking the Strom King Mountain Trail.

There is the main parking lot off route 9W, which can hold about 20 cars. So, if you are planning on visiting this location on a weekend it's advised to arrive no later than 9:30 am to grab a spot. Hiking is free! Be sure to bring snacks, plenty of water, sunscreen, and bug spray (tick spray also).

Hiking trails vary in length, yet a moderate trail can be about 4 miles and the loop time of the trail could range between 3 - 4.5 hours (depending on your speed). I personally like to take my time.

Happy Trails!

Yes, yes, yes. I've hiked that area and loved it. I'm not too fond of rock scrambles, especially if it's a spot that's not good for those with some height fears, but loved those hikes anyway.

It looks like a wonderful hike and it would be fun to do some scrambling on those rocks!
