Come to Colorado for fun this summer! Did you know that in July, 1887, two prospecting unearthed "Tom Baby," the largest gold nugget ever found in Colorado weighing 13.5 pounds. This was at Breckenridge where in the spring of 1860 the town swelled of 8,000 people seeking gold fortunes in the Blue River Diggings."
You can take a tour in a real gold mine, you must wear a hard hat and you will descend 1,000 feet deep into the tunnel for a 45 minute tour. This mine was founded in 1887 and is one of the oldest mines in Summit County. It's 45 degree is year round but snowmelt makes it damp in the summer. After the tour, you can pan for gold and return to your vehicle via a tunnel slide.
