Motivational Monday…It Doesn’t Matter

Saturday we watched the Kentucky Derby with our neighbors and saw an incredible race and finish.

I know very little about horse racing much less the Kentucky Derby. The winner, Rich Strike, managed to surprise its owner, trainer, and everyone watching.

This was a horse that wasn’t even supposed to be in the race. Not even their owners knew until Friday morning that they would be racing the next day.

Rich Strike may have been late to the dance but he made the most of this race. Watch below…

What’s the lesson, you ask, because surely you’re not writing a post about a horse race!

No matter how late we are to whatever it is we want to do, we have every chance to succeed.

For example, if you are new to real estate and want to farm an area, don’t let the fact that someone else has already been successful in that community stop you.  Do your research and make a plan then go full out for it.

Think about something you’d like to try, whether for work or in your personal life. Do you think it’s too late?  If you want it, then learn, practice then go for it with all you’ve got.

It doesn't matter where you start
but how you finish that matters!

It doesn’t matter where you’re coming from; All that matters is where you are going.

Kathy I watched the race and it was a real shocker.  I wish I had put $100 down on Rich Strike.  ☺️

I'm not much on horse racing either, but since my brother bet on two horses, I thought I would watch, his wife at the last minute, told him to bet on Rich Strike and so he did, she was blessed with a very good Mother's Day gift.

Wayne Martin The odds may be against us but those are just odds...certainly not a sure thing.

Nina Hollander, Broker and look where you are today!!!  You didn't let moving into a new area stop you.

Kat Palmiotti you're living proof of this. You moved across the country and had to start again.

Norbert Fabre, MRSA exactly!  Get a plan in place and then take that first step.

faye schubert well said. We put up our own limitations. If you can, watch what the horse did after the race.

Grant Schneider That horse was nothing if not persistent.

Brian England we don't often watch but our neighbor loves the race so much we watched it with him. The horse's name I drew came in second.

Michael Jacobs I know nothing about horses but maybe this horse like to get out and run.

Carol Williams this was the first race I've watched where I actually got excited for the horse.

Anna Banana Kruchten CRS, Phoenix Broker my friend and I wore hats for the first few minutes then ditched them. I have one of the hats I'd purchased for mini-me's tea party.  The horse's name I drew came in second.

A great analogy and truly a great story about Rich Strike. I once read about an 80 year old woman who had just completed her training to become a Doctor, she always wanted to but the opportunity never arose till late in life when everyone thought it was too late except her. She went on to provide health care for many years in a rural community.

Hi Kathy,

This is a great example to show those that all it takes sometimes is showing up and doing your best. My dad went to Churchill Downs and did attend the Kentucky Derby many times.  Here is an image of us at the famous racehorse park.

Thank you so much for sharing the race!  How exciting for everyone there, much less the owner and jockey!  Point well taken.  I appreciate your post very much!

The finish was so exciting Kathy, especially to watch it overhead and to see the spirit of that horse instinctually make to the front of the pack and WIN!!! I love stories like this that are so unexpected and found myself cheering for Rick Strike and his jockey.

Watching Rich Strike come through the pack for a win gave me shivers. He made them look like they were standing still. As a horse person from way back, I got teary-eyed watching the pre-race - those horses are so magnificent.

I did see what he did after the race - and would have to say he not only loves to run, he's a brat!

Hopefully, none of the agents taking motivation from your post will be so bratty when they win!

That was really an amazing horse race.  I've rerun the video a couple of times.  I remember no derby like it.

Kathy, loved your post and interesting take away from the Kentucky Derby.... personally  I have not had the TV on in going on three years.... as to my observation you make some great points,...never the less for me it is the Journey that is important, how we move along the Journey, not necessarily where we end up at or when we started, just my two cents, Endre

I watched that race live and I could see how the track opened up to allow the jockey to let him run. That horse was so amped that it would have run another race it allowed.

Same goes for business, keep trying and one never knows how the path will open up for business

There's some great advice and inspiration in this post!

I didn't watch the Derby this year but read about it. Pretty impressive horse racing!
