A Day In Seaside, Oregon

Monday was a kickback leisurely day at the beach.  This trip has pretty much been a wet and windy one but it doesn't dampen my spirits.

This spot in Seaside, Oregon is designated as the End of the Trail for the 2-year 4,000-mile Lewis and Clark Expedition.

On Monday, I was able to get out for a walk before the rain started so I was happy about that.

Last year when I was here with a friend we had an amazing Seafood Boil from a local restaurant called the Sea Crab House. We enjoyed it so much that I wanted to go back this year. I can't eat an entire Boil by myself so I opted for some clam chowder, and fish tacos... and I ordered some crab cakes To-Go (for dinner).

I am a chowder hound and love to try the chowder wherever I go during my travels. This is the first time, though, I've had chowder with the clams still in the shell.  I'm wondering if anyone else reading this has had that experience.

I paid attention to their price board. You probably can tell why I didn't order the King Crab. The live lobster was $53/lb and the Mussels and clams were $17/lb.

Sunday evenings sunset.

Hi Brian England
Other than the Sea Hag in Depoe Bay, some of the best chowder I've had is at a place called Hurricane Ron's in Astoria about 26 miles north of Seaside.

Being on the Oregon coast can't be beat Carol - rain or shine!  And OMG the fresh seafood is the best!  I used to spend a couple of weeks or so for several years in Yahats (not sure I spelled it right).  So beautiful.  I'll take some of that clam chowder soup please!!  Along with my favorite - fish tacos!

My grandchildren absolutely love Seaside Oregon and the arcade. We stay at the WorldMark when we go there and we had three adjoining rooms Carol

Hi Carol- I'm glad that you're enjoying yourself even though it's a bit damp!  I love both kinds of chowder and am glad that you got to have some. I can't remember having clams in my chowder. And at $120 a pound for King Crab, I would have definitely passed.

Hey Anna Banana Kruchten CRS, Phoenix Broker
Yes, the Oregon coast is beautiful and a blast from the past. Having grown up in Oregon I got to spend some wonderful weekends there.

I do love chowder and fresh seafood. I found a place in Wenatchee that makes great fish tacos so I'm happy about that.

Hi Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS
The Worldmark is awesome and a wonderful location... and an easy walk to the arcade for the kids. I've stayed there but have another spot just a couple buildings to the south where I like to stay.

Somewhere I have a picture of that price board from last year. I need to find it and compare prices.

I do enjoy good seafood Carol, yum! Clam chowder with the shells intact? No, that would not do for me and it's a good thing they did not sell that dish by the pound.

Carol any good restaurant in Boston MA would have clam chowder or as we used to call it chouda now the top of the line restaurants would have some clams with shells in them it is a good eye catcher and you feel like it must be super fresh and it is:)Endre

120 bucks a pound for King Crab now?  No wonder we have not had shrimp lately either.  Enjoy.

HI Endre Barath, Jr.
I just had a little cup of chouda and there were 4 clams in the shell.  It was unique to me.

Carol, now you have me thinking about clam chowder.  I love it too.   I think even though it was rainy, still fun to get out and walk (with a raincoast).

Dear Carol,

Looks like you had a perfect outing. That coast is really nice pretty much anywhere you stop. Have not been in a long time.
