Friday Fun…Staying Cool

Just for fun…well it IS Friday…what do you like to eat when it’s really hot out???

Here in the Houston area, we’ve had temperatures in the low 90s, and Monday we may inch up to 100 degrees. If you’ve been to Houston, then you know that when you factor in the ever-present humidity…consider it a free sauna session.

So I ask…when it’s really hot out, what do you like to eat to cool off?

Ice cream is ok but not my favorite. However other desserts are welcome any time of the year.

I want watermelon, mangoes, grapes, oranges, and any other kind of fruit. Salads with fresh red peppers, grape tomatoes, and cucumbers are so refreshing.

I also love cold pasta or crab salads and anything that can be cooked on the grill.

What about you? When it’s seriously hot out…what’s your favorite thing to eat???

We mostly grill chicken, fish or steak along with a salad or fresh veggies - but that's kind of goes on all year, not just in summer! I don't think I've ever made a pasta salad....interesting.  What would be the best one to make first?

Anything on the grill is good, I love salads too, but I also like a nice Italian Water Ice, that really cools you down, mango or lemon is my favourite.

Hi Nina Hollander, Broker I don't change mine much either although I love chili or red beans and rice but tend not to eat those in the summer. I might though.

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 that's something that we used to do in Delray Beach on Atlantic Avenue.

Roy Kelley we could use that rain here!!! Have a good weekend.

Brian England the funny thing is that I'm so used to humidity, when we were in AZ and Vegas, I couldn't get used to the dry heat. I couldn't get enough water in me.

Leanne Smith I love a good salad if someone else makes them. I'm not much on making them but love to eat them.

Bob "RealMan" Timm I have never developed the taste for beer!  But I do love pork chops.

Kat Palmiotti I'm grateful that my hair is straight. Otherwise, this humidity is awful for the hair.

Will Hamm I'm planning a crab salad this weekend.

Anna Banana Kruchten CRS, Phoenix Broker I buy tortellini (often it has spinach or cheese in it). Cook and then drain. While still warm I add whatever I want...celery, sliced Spanish olives, red peppers, parsley, then mix in a Caesar dressing and some Parmesan cheese. Then Chill it!!!

Yum!  I've seen those things in a grocery store but never knew what to do with them.  I'll surprise Gary one of these nights!

Hi Kathy,

I am with you.  I like to eat fruit, preferably chilled.  Watermelon is always tasty but I like peaches, grapes,  and nectarines.  Sedona was just shy of 90º today with humidity at 4%.  I don't do well in humid climates. Up until a couple of days ago, our temps have been in the 70ºs.  Happy Friday!

That tortellini pasta salad looks scrumptious, Kathy.  I'd love to have the recipe.

I made some potato salad for dinner, and Rick will grill.

Lunch was soup...not the best idea since it is the hottest day we have had this year yet. I'm heading for the Vitamix for a smoothie now!

Hi Kathy:

That's pretty toasty and no doubt the humidity iss a challenge.

We like grilled foods (fish, chicken, vegetables), fruit and salads. Cold past salads are a fave in the summer. It so rarely gets as hot as you had, and we don't get that much humidity IMO.

Jeff
