Got a text from my mobile carrier and they said effective 6/17/22, area code 983 will be added to our current 303 and 720 area codes.
Remember those days when you dialed ONLY seven numbers? It has been a while. Years ago, everyone had 303 for a home phone as well as a cell number, then 720 was added. When you saw a home number you knew what part of town they lived. Today, not so much. The 720 numbers were usually for cell numbers only.
This is interesting information to share.

Hi Joan... so far, Charlotte's only got two area codes -- 704, which was the first one when area codes were first introduced. 980 was introduced in 2000, primarily for cell phones. Of course, these days, so many people don't have a landline, I suspect those who get a new one get the 980 code as well.

My boy told me yesterday about the 3rd area code. It is crazy how much Denver has grown since the mid-90s.

Hi Joan- I'm not sure how many Houston has...3 or 4? But a growing number of area codes definitely signals growth.
Kathy, I am thinking Houston is much larger than Denver, and would expect a few more area codes.
The old days of party lines would be a great inconvenience in today's time. Cell phones have blown up the need for numbers as a home can have multi cell phones and originally only 1 main number

Hi Joan - I don't know if you have any coveted area codes but I remember when they divided up the NYC 212 area code. People were upset. I like the area code of the space coast here in Florida. It is 321.
Ed, most of my clients don't have home phones anymore, just cell phones. And I remember party lines, but didn't have them much here in Denver.

Grant, Denver did not divide up the numbers, they added 720 after 303 was all given out.
