Originally known as Decoration Day, in the early 1900's it was designated as Memorial Day in remembrance of those who have died for our country by decorating graves with flowers, wreaths and flags as told by the Library of Congress.
It is also the unofficial kick-off for summer in the U.S. On average, 57% of Americans will be grilling on Memorial Day. It's estimated that over 800 hot dogs are eaten per second! That's a lot of dogs!
Hi Will... hot dogs are great on the grill....for sure. I read in a blind taste test that Costco (Kirkland) Beef Hot Dogs (packaged not those in the food court) were the best tasting.
I did not know that little bit of history about decoration Day. I also didn’t realize how many hotdogs will be consumed this weekend. Thank you for informing me Will 😀
That sure is a lot of hot dogs, Will! Personally, I almost never eat them and have no plans to do so this weekend.
