What Problem Did I Solve For You?

By
Real Estate Agent with Progressive Realty (Boise Idaho) www.Progressive-Realty.info DB-17066

Unfortunately, some Realtors have a reputation of being predatory like a wolf. They sit in ambush awaiting unsuspecting buyers to walk into their open house.  However, I am blessed in that I have been a Realtor for 31 years in Idaho and most of my business comes from referrals from satisfied clients and repeat clients.

I always hesitated to ask for testimonials from my clients since it seemed braggadocios.  However, recently I had a friend ask the question differently and I love it.  He asked "What problem did I solve for you?"

I decided to use that question as the framework for the testimonials.  Here are my first two reviews after making this change:

I received notice the other day that UPS would be delivering something from Wine Country but had no idea who sent it until it arrived today. It was from a recent past client as a closing gift to me for a change! I am usually the one buying closing gifts for my clients.

I even had one client give me a bottle of Malbec at their home after our very first consultation. They knew my favorite red wine so my reputation must have preceded me.

Earlier this week, I got an offer accepted for my middle son for his first house. His son, my newest grandson, is too young to type a testimonial, so I am showing this photo which says even more than a written testimonial could . . .

Hi Jim- what a refreshing way to approach a testimonial!!!  It's hard to ask for them but I think people are becoming more and more comfortable the idea of them.

Kathy Streib I like how it makes the testimonial have value instead of "they were nice to work with" or "they did a good job" which are nice, but don't really offer a value proposition.

Jim this is an excellent way of asking for testimonials!  You are an awesome broker and clearly your clients trust you to do the absolute best for them - and you do as these testimonials show.

Dear Jim,

I see, they are still using the same weird teeth for wolf taxidermy. They look somewhat unrealistic to me. Did you know wolves mostly hunt very small mammals, like lemmings, mice & voles? Carrion too, although they do occasionally go after bigger prey.

Jun 03, 2022 09:12 PM
Jim Paulson

Dorte Engel wolves are a huge controversy here in Idaho.  When they were reintroduced, people claim the new wolves were much bigger and aggressive than the original wolves we had here. You taught me a new word today . . . carrion. Thank you.

Last year during a discussion with a friend about putting in a permit to do a 23 day float down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon, my friend asked asked if I knew any good taxidermists here in Boise.  I admitted that I didn't but that I have lots of friends that are hunters, outfitters and guides so I felt confident I could find one if needed. Then a few months later, I found out I was successful and drew a permit for us to float the Grand Canyon this July!  He asked me again about the taxidermist.  Bewildered, I asked why he had  this sudden infatuation with taxidermists.  He responded "Well your permit isn't assignable, so if you die between now and then, we are still going!"

Oh I love this question! I too hate to ask for testimonials. I did so recently at the prompting of my marketing person. I really got some nice feedback. It just shows people do want to help.

Carla Freund I highly recommend asking.  I should have been doing it since day 1.

Jim, great way to frame asking for a testimonial!   I get mine usually through Rate my Agent, which is free from our local MLS.

Joan Cox our MLS uses it as well but I haven't even used their free version.  Do you pay for any of their upgrades?  If so, is it worth it?

Hello Jim Paulson

There is nothing "crappy here" other than all the good crap!

Your newest grandson's photo says it all.  No words are needed.

Congratulations - enjoy the wine! 🍷🍷

Thank you Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist.  Did you know there are 69 wineries in Idaho and over 25 of them are within an hour drive of Boise?

Thanks Carol Williams.  BTW, I was just responding to a comment from Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist and decided to write a blog about Idaho's wineries and AVA's.  Maybe my tax guru will  let me write off my trips to the wineries as "marketing research".

Thanks Elyse Berman, PA.  I am a lucky man in that all three of my sons married great women that have blessed me with amazing grandkids.  Here is my first granddaughter who lives there in Florida that I have to keep visiting.  I need to schedule more classes to teach in Florida for NAR and NAHB so I can come back a lot more often.

We make it a habit of asking for testimonials from our clients. Some write nice stuff. Some don't write anything. I like your approach about solving a problem as stimulus for a response.

Isn't it grand being a grandparent!

Jun 04, 2022 05:51 PM
Jim Paulson

Yes it is John Juarez.  I loved watching our 3 boys grow up into young men and now I really enjoy watching them become proud fathers as well. When my wife was first diagnosed with cancer, she thought she wouldn't be able to meet any of her grandkids.  Fortunately, she was able to meet the first two and learn the sex and name of our third.  They were the best medicine for her.

Dr. Paula McDonald I do love helping people with their real estate needs.  I have one great client that might be moving to Texas so I will need to look up Granbury to see where it is located so I can be prepared when they tell me which part of Texas they are considering.  Have a great weekend!
