One thing my buyer clients increasingly have been asking for in the last several years is for a home with an owner's suite on the main floor. Part of the reason is that baby boomers are aging. Also, quite a number of my clients grew up in one-story homes and like the idea of having their bedroom on the main floor, even if they are purchasing a two-story home.
We often joke that Charlotte is the "home of two-story brick boxes," where an owner's suite is typically on the second floor. Fortunately, in recent years, more of our builders are offering homes with a first floor owner's suite, but they can still be hard to find.
