Pet Friendly 55+ communities known as The Valencias are active adult, retirement communities in Delray Beach, Boynton Beach and Lake Worth FL.    

These upscale, active communities are geared towards today's baby boomers with a multitude of amenities to keep you as busy as you want.  From pickleball to card games to book clubs to fitness and everything in between, this is truly a nice lifestyle for those who desire it.

And, of course, they are all cat and dog friendly.  There are even walking paths to meet other dog walkers.  

 

WHERE ARE THESE VALENCIA COMMUNTIES

For purposes of this article, I am only talking about the Valencia communities in Delray Beach, Boynton Beach and Lake Worth FL.   

As of this writing, there are 10 completed Valencia communities in the Delray-Boynton-Lake Worth area of southeast Florida.  A new one is on course to be built.

The communities are:   Valencia Lakes, Valencia Isles, Valencia Shores, Valencia Falls, Valencia Palms, Valencia Pointe, Valencia Reserve, Valencia Cove, Valencia Bay and Valencia Sound.  To be built will be Valencia Grand.

 

VALENCIA CONCEPT

Valencia Lakes in Boynton Beach is where these pet-friendly 55+ communities started back in 1997.  The idea took off and a lifestyle was born.  Nine additional Valencia communities followed. 

All are complete and separate communities.  The idea was brilliant, and the concept continues today.  It has even expanded into all-age communities, but that's another blog!

The communities offer single family homes ranging in size from approximately 1300 square feet to over 3000 square feet.   They are, with a few exceptions, all single story homes.

 

PRICES OF HOMES IN THE VALENCIAS

Prices for resales in Valencia range from the mid-$ 400s to $ 1.5M+ as of today.   

They vary by community.  You will do better on price buying a resale than buying a new or even newer home, which cost more to build.   In other words, the communities which were built between 1997 and 2012, or so, are turning.  This is the time to grab one.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Homes in 55+ gated communities sell like hotcakes today.  As soon as hit the market and sometimes even before, they are gone.  It's a matter of days.   That's because you can buy a resale for about half what it will cost you to build one, if you can find one to build.

So what are you waiting for?   Work with a great buyer's agent.  Find a house you like and hire a good moving company.  

Life in south Florida is nice.  Ask an ex-New Yorker who has been here 28 years.   It's user friendly and very easy to get used to.

Elyse Berman, PA The builders I know say the cost to build is on the rise. Not only supplies but labor is up . You cannot find people that will stay on a Jobsite. Plus the costs to get approval from government agencies for permits and approvals also cost more,

Good morning, Elyse... a great introduction to the Valencia communities. Pets provide so much comfort and pleasure to older people, I never could understand why they would buy in a community that is not pet-friendly.

Great information for folks moving with pets. Who would have thought it might be difficult finding a pet friendly community. The Triangle area where I'm at is very pet friendly. We have dog parks and some restaurants where you can take your pets. I can't even think of a subdivision or neighborhood that doesn't allow pets. We do have town ordinances which restricts the number of pets or perhaps farm animals.
