In Austin we have been experiencing unpresented hot temperatures! Lake Travis is 29.22 feet below (651.89 feet) which full is 681 feet. The Austin Water moved to stage 1 watering on June 6th. If we don’t get some much needed rain we will move to Stage 2.
With the ridiculous price of gas and food many families are struggling to make ends meet. Saving on utility bills can really help keep more money in your wallet. I’ve divided these tips into 2 groups:
ENERGY:
u Turn off your power strips when not in use and unplug electronics.
u Avoid turning on your oven during the hottest time of the day.
u When doing your laundry; wash full loads.
u Thermostats should be set at 78 degrees or higher.
u Use energy efficient lighting.
u Windows hit by direct sunlight keep curtains and blinds drawn.
WATER:
u Efficient dishwashers use as little as 4 gallons per cycle, use it rather than washing by hand.
u Water your lawn only on your assigned day and times.
u If you take a bath only half fill the tub, limit showers to 5 minutes or less.
u Install water-saving aerators on your bathroom faucets.
u Install water-saving showerheads that use 1.5 gallons per minute or less.
Take time and try some of these summer saving tips and see if they make a difference in your utility bills!
