In school... sort of.
I was in Watertown South Dakota at the Great Plains Lutheran High School for the Dakota-Montana District 51st Biannual Convention of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). That's a mouthful isn't it?
I had never been to a synodical convention in all my life and I must say it was a whole lot to take in. First of all there was the facility it self, an amazing campus for High School scholars who wish to serve the Lord with-in the WELS Church. WELS has 25 such High Schools across the United States and just one seminary (collage).
Before I go on here are a few pics of Great Plains LHS where I was all week.
This is the dorm building. What you see is just the face of it. Besides the rooms there are wonderful dining areas, activity areas, and just social gathering areas.
My room, bottom bunk, Not shown are the built in study areas for each student and the bathroom. They were very spacious for a student.
We met in the Gymnasium which is a newer facility BUT that being said there were several new building projects going on.
Below is the area in which we met.
I would guess that all in all the campus sits on about 20 acreas. If you want to know more about Great Plains Lutheran High School I've added a link to the name.
As far as my experience, I can best describe learning about what our church offers as incredible. The WELS offers amazing support to individuals and it's churches. Amazing and incredible are words that came to me many times every single day I was there.
Each church with-in this District meeting had one pastor and one delegate present if possible. My pastor, who is the best pastor I've been served by in 68 years often tells our church: "I have faith that no matter who the church calls (should I leave) you will receive a pastor who thoroughly knows and believes the Bible to be the inerrant word of God".
I learned this week is that his statement is true, of the 50 or so pastors I meet they were all amazing in their knowledge of the word and the great wisdom they had in knowing how to apply it. I also learned that there was nothing cookie cutter about these guys... so many amazing men with diverse talents, skills, and life stories. If our pastor was ever to leave us we will get a whole different person but the same great faith, knowledge, and wisdom as Pastor Walther.
