When considering which flag to share for the June Challenge, I thought it fitting to share a post of something sustainable. After all, the American flag has been a sustainable "institution" since it was established as a national Flag on June 14, 1777.
Sustainability is a 3 legged stool, People, Profit and Planet. Since the American flag sustains us, it is a faction of sustainability.
Fire Station #2 is the first fire station in the US to be certified as LEED Platinum in 2009. Platinum is the highest level of LEED certification available. This fire station was an urban in-fill project and was designed by LEA Architects. Fire Station #2 has won many awards for it's design as well as it's capability for active and passive features.
LEED Certification includes the following features: water efficiency; energy efficiency; local materials and resources; indoor environmental qualify; awareness and education; and location close to the public.
What a wonderful tribute to public service by the city of Scottsdale for the first of MANY LEED certified fire stations.
