Friday Fun…Do You Have a Favorite?

This week I read that tomorrow, June 25 is recognized as Global Beatles Day. I can remember in the summer of 1965, a group of us sat with all eyes on our friend Sandy…our ears tuned to every word she said.

You see Sandy and her friend had gone to the Houston Coliseum to see The Beatles. She was one of the thousands of other teenage girls screaming and crying as the Fab Four made an appearance.  We all lived vicariously through her.

I love their music, especially the early songs such as “I Saw Her Standing There” and “Do You Want to Know a Secret.” But I also love the songs that show them transforming and maturing in their writing skills.

In trying to think of what my favorite Beatles song would be…I couldn’t. There are too many.

What about you?

First of all, do you even like the Beatles?

Who is your favorite?

Do you have a favorite Beatles song???

For me, it was the album Sgt Peppers lonely Heart club band as there were so many great songs on it. It would play continuously in the dorms

I like so many of their songs Kathy, but I guess "All My Loving" can start at the top. And, it was Paul, Paul, Paul for me!

Hi Kathy - Phyllis has a story.  She and her cousin were at the New York Worlds Fair which was near Laguardia Airport   The Beatles arrived for their tour of the US and they went to the fence and saw them.  The girls in my 9th grade class were arguing about who was the cutest.  That, of course, was before any airport security.

I do kind of remember they're coming to America on TV and all the teenage girls screaming (which I thought was kind of odd)!  I do like they're music and I'm trying to think of what would be a favorite song. Varney plays a lot of Beatles on his biz show and I always enjoy  listening to them!

Hi Kathy,

I liked all the Beatles and was sad to see them break up.  I guess if I had to pick a favorite, it would be Paul who just turned 80.  I still can't believe it.

That's what makes the world go round Wayne Martin For example, I never got Elvis or Seinfeld.

Hi Nina Hollander, Broker Paul was probably my favorite too. I kept trying to pick a favorite song but everytime I did, I kept thinking of another one. I love the earlier ones, but also love Here, There, and Everywhere as well.

Roy Kelley I think that many women my age loved Paul, then George!

Brian England it's interesting how the decade we grew up in formed the music we liked. Larry, for example, missed a lot of the music of the 70s while he was in the Air Force.

Michael Jacobs oh my gosh, I remember my first transistor radio!!!  I also had a "record player" and remember my 45s and LP's as well. I loved album covers and the liners. Several years ago Larry bought a really nice phonograph player and we began going to different Goodwills for used LP's (since we'd sold all of ours when CDs came along.)

Bill Salvatore - East Valley Thanks...I may listen to some of my old Beatles music tomorrow.

Dorie Dillard Austin TX I remember how we all lived vicariously through our friend who waited with all of the other teens to see them. My brother is a huge Beatles fan and a lot of the songs his band plays are Beatles music.

Kathy their songs got much better as the years went by.  Something about a song whose major words were "YAH, YAH, YAH, never did much for me ...... LOL

Gosh, they have so many good songs it would be hard to choose one. My son-in-law is a huge fan of the Beatles. For their wedding, my daughter had a Beatles groom cake made for him. I watched some of the recent Beatles documentary with him. He knows so much about them and what was going on in their lives at the time. His backstory was better than the documentary.

I still remember the first time I heard the Beatles.  I also remember having a little trouble dancing to their beat at first.  A friend of mine, taught me, by having me walk up to the pencil sharper, and having me wiggle my hips while sharpening pencils.  It took a few pencils ground down to the nubbins, before I got it though!🙃
