This Week…So Dry

What a week this has been.  We’ve had very high temperatures (bordering around 100 degrees) and little to no rain.

My role in society, or any artist's or poet's role, is to try and express what we all feel. Not to tell people how to feel. Not as a preacher, not as a leader, but as a reflection of us all. John Lennon

Even with a sprinkler system, many have taken to hand watering those little areas that are beginning to turn brown.

I'd like to end up sort of unforgettable. Ringo Starr

This morning while I was “spot watering” I decided to listen to some of my favorite songs by the Beatles since it is Global Beatles Day.

If you don't know where you're going, any road'll take you there

 George Harrison

This also brought back fond memories of spending time with my grandmother. She loved her garden. Often in the evenings, I would go outside and watch her (and probably get in her way)  as she cared for her plants.

She taught me how to adequately water everything (No in-ground sprinkler systems then), how to plant mint to keep insects away from the tomatoes, and exactly where to trim the roses.

You can judge a man's true character by the way he treats his fellow animals.

 Paul McCartney

Working in the garden helped me keep my sanity while I was in grad school. I wonder if children today understand where our fruits and veggies come from???   Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Wanda Can!'s children and grandchildren are so lucky!!!

Have a cool weekend!

Good morning Kathy. Not and never have been a Beatles fan, but nature has its own agenda. Rain comes and rain goes. Sometime the balance is there and sometimes it goes away. Interestingly, whether comfortable or not, we survive! We can learn to be calmer in our actions from the lessons of nature. Enjoy your day.

Kathy - we are still good up here but August becomes dry and and that is when I change the timer on the sprinkler to every day.  The community has a system of recycled water at our house in Florida.  Frankly, some complain that it is not own enough.

Kathy, 100 degrees with your humidity would be awful, hope the temps come down, and you see some rain.

How sweet to include those quotes from the Beatle members Kathy. I was only familiar with one of them.

Hi Dorie Dillard Austin TX We may get some rain this week...fingers are crossed! Our morning walks aren't too bad as long as there is a breeze.  I keep telling myself to get back into some minor gardening but I really don't want to have to deal with it in the winter.

Brian England maybe it was setting off early July 4th fireworks.

Nina Hollander, Broker the patches in our backyard that were suffering are already looking better after just two days of spot watering. The sprinklers aren't getting that area. And yes, I've skeptical around people who don't like animals.

Wayne Martin good point. Mother Nature seems to make sure we have what we need...maybe not when we want it or on our own time but if we're patient, it will come.

Grant Schneider I can remember years ago when we had water restrictions in FL. They did make exceptions for hosing off your boat after an ocean ride but otherwise pretty strict.  When we first moved to FL I remember seeing brown stains on commercial buildings. Larry pointed out that they were from using recycled water.

Hi Kathy
Your post brought back some memories of my own grandmother's flower garden. My dad loved growing both vegetables and flowers.  It's been hot in Phoenix this week but low humidity so that helps.

Hi Kathy:

I hope you get some relief from the heat, and perhaps some rain. There's a heatwave brewing here, but it will be focused inland and not at the coast. Always scary because of the risk of fires (the one yesterday near the Village was supposedly arson-related).

Fun read about the gardening, with all the wonderful Beatles quotes and photos.
