Even though our country isn’t perfect, I never fail to feel a sense of pride when I see our US flag blowing in the wind. I haven’t been around Active Rain for about a year. However when I saw the June contest was about Old Glory, I knew that I needed to make time to come back to Active Rain & to participate.
I have not been blogging much on Active Rain because I have been trying to rebuild my real estate business from scratch in Corpus Christi, TX, a coastal city in South Texas. As I looked through my pictures for flags, I was surprised to discover that the very first picture I took in Corpus Christi was at twilight. I was trying to take a picture of the American flags that were lining Ocean Drive.
My first trip to Corpus Christi, TX was on November 10, 2020. That was the day before Veterans Day.
I didn’t realize it that first night but Corpus Christi has a lot of people that are very patriotic and proudly fly our flag. There is a lot of history that has occurred here and many of the residents have died in the many wars that have allowed us to have the freedoms that we cherish today.
This mural, by Rafael Banco, was created this year to celebrate all of the people that have served and supported the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi. I saw the mural “Born to Fly” for the first time on June 11, 2022.
in my next post, I will share a picture of our US flag flying on the USS Lexington, a World War 2 era aircraft carrier that is now serving as a museum in Corpus Christi. I was on the ship for a Memorial Day service. I was also able to see one of the F-14s that was flown in the movie Top Gun.
