Ask An Ambassador: Juggling High, Higher, Highest

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Alliance 513.520.5305 www.LizTour.com SAL.2002007747

I'm a professional juggler.

No balls, bowling pins or chainsaws or any other flaming objects up in the air with me, but I'm juggling just the same.

What I'm juggling is determining highest and best use of my time throughout the day and week.

I wear a variety of hats.  Husband.  Engineer.  Real estate agent.  Co-caretaker of a passel of cats and dogs.  Beekeeper.  Volunteer.  Shell answer man thanks to blog posts being found.

Most days there will be more on my To Do list than can be on my DONE list at the end of the day.  So what's High priority, what's Higher priority and what's Highest priority?   The answer to that question drives my day.

Time sensitivity and the consequences of not doing something drive my decisions, and rearrangements of priority on the fly are not uncommon (oh, a house that matches one of my buyers just came on the market??).

When it comes to my activity in the Rain, that priority list is fairly stable.

Highest and best use of my time typically works out as follows:

1.  Producing a post that can help our business (patio homes, subdivisions, long tail searches, etc.)

2. Producing a non-business related post (e.g. Ask An Ambassador posts on Tuesdays).

3.  Responding to comments on our own posts

4.  Reading other blogger's posts.

5.  Commenting.

6.  Q&A activity.

My list is ranked from most likely to generate business to most unlikely.  Depending on your desired purpose for your time in the Rain, your priority list may be completely different than mine, maybe even a direct opposite with social activities working better for you than pure business activities.

That's the beauty of this place, we each can discover what works best for us, then do it.

Until next Tuesday, just Ask An Ambassador if you need help,

Bill & Liz

Hello Bill (and Liz too) - while some say they can multi-task with "the best of them" - it is a concept that continues to fascinate me.  On a personal level as well as through observation viewed from the outside.

Juggling, on the other hand, seems like a skill that one becomes proficient over time, and great discipline.   And success in achievement can be "viewed" in real time.

It's something I've had to practice quite a bit.  31 years as an engineer, 18 of those as a dual engineer/agent.  Add in the growth in the zoo and time is shorter than it used to be.  I squeeze in a rare trip to ride roller coasters for fun, but there's not a lot of play time in my daily schedule.

And for some, it's 100% social.  For me, I think I'm more in the 80-90% business with a dash of social.

lol!  I have a lot of carryover!  Eventually I get it done, or it loses its relevance and doesn't need done.

I agree. It's a constant juggling act trying to get things done. In my case, it's a matter of trying to fit work in between the constant interruptions.

Bill:

Our business is a big juggling act everyday, with things we know that need to get done, as well as items that get thrown our way and perhaps steer us off course. Add in daily life and the juggling act can get pretty complex, especially when priorities shift.

I'm always just one phone call, or email, away from a major shift in the day's pants.

Yes, we have to decide what the best use of our time is..  Where do we want to spend our energy?  As with time, there is an end to the amount of energy we have.

One of the many reasons I thinned out who has access to my Facebook feed.  The constantly negative are not going to last, energy vampires are bad for my day.

You definitely wear more hats than I would want to wear myself, haha.  It seems like you wear them all well though!

A lot of practice and a willingness to shuffle off some of the personal stuff to meet my bigger picture needs.  I'll see the new Top Gun movie one of these days :)

Is it just me or is crossing something off your to-do list still one of the most satisfying things ever. Great Post.

Liz and Bill Spear I think it has to be like that sometimes to make us realize how to be our best selves. You know what I mean
