While Timmothy's cartoon is funny and with Covid many of us can identify with it one aspect is not so funny... loneliness can lead to many serious mental health issues and even to suicide.
I am sure the stats are much higher after 2020 with all that has gone on but they still get the message across... suicide is a serious problem.
Not that I trust much of what the CDC has to say these days but when it comes to this topic I think it is worth viewing their site on this topic. SUICIDE
With the huge emphasis on LBGT issues lately I found the last sentence in the paragraph below from the CDC site to be very interesting.
Some groups have higher suicide rates than others. Suicide rates vary by race/ethnicity, age, and other factors, such as where someone lives. By race/ethnicity, the groups with the highest rates were non-Hispanic American Indian/Alaska Native and non-Hispanic White populations. 3 Other Americans with higher than average rates of suicide are veterans, people who live in rural areas, and workers in certain industries and occupations like mining and construction.5,6 Young people who identify as lesbian, gay, or bisexual have higher rates of suicidal thoughts and behavior compared to their peers who identify as heterosexual.7
Regardless of why someone may mention that they are feeling suicidal we need to pay attention. Listen when they speak, don't just consider it "a mood". Get someone involved who can help. Myself, I would as if they are involved in a spiritual group (church) and encourage them to talk to their Pastor.
