Motivational Monday…Be One if You Want One
There’s something I heard that was so simple and made so much sense…
If you want a good friend, be a good friend.
Good friend??? Several years ago when my good friend learned that Larry was having surgery, she offered to drive down (from Northern VA to FL) just to sit with me. Had she been in FL I would have taken her up on it but that was going above and beyond!)
Want to read some “good friend” stories?
I read that as we go through life the number of real and true friends we have becomes less. Which makes a certain amount of sense. When we are in school and through work, we have a large circle of acquaintances and friends.
But life happens, people move, we have families, interests change and we change.
In fact, did you know that…
*The average American hasn't made a new friend in 5 years
*The average adult has 16 friends
*“The average American has three friends for life, five people they really like and would hang out with one-on-one, and eight people they like but don’t spend time with one-on-one or seek out.
Another interesting tidbit is that 45% of people surveyed would love to make new friends if only they knew how.
So what do you do??
-Don’t say “We need to get together.” Do it! Put it on your calendar.
-Follow your interests! Whatever they may be, seek out others with similar interests, whether it’s cooking, hiking, church, fishing…
-Give of your time. Volunteers are always needed and what better way to meet new friends.
But whatever you decide to do remember that if you want a good friend…be a good friend.
How about a quote about Friends from someone who should know??
Where would you be without friends? The people to pick you up when you need lifting? We come from homes far from perfect, so you end up almost parent and sibling to your friends - your own chosen family. There's nothing like a really loyal, dependable, good friend. Nothing. Jennifer Aniston
