About The Isabella Santos Foundation

The Isabella Santos Foundation is dedicated to improving rare pediatric cancer treatment options to increase the survival rates of kids with cancer. Since 2008, the Isabella Santos Foundation has funded nearly $6 million toward expanding the scope of research and treatment and supporting families dealing with cancer in a variety of ways. The foundation is named after Isabella Santos who was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma in 2007. Isabella lived her life with an attitude of “beat cancer, grow my hair, live my dreams.” Sadly, Isabella lost her battle with cancer in 2012 at the age of seven. Today the Isabella Foundations core message is Beat (the odds), Grow (awareness), Live (without fear). Read more about Isabella Santos' story here.

PEDIATRIC CANCER STATISTICS

Did you know that according to the American Cancer Society:

  • After accidents, cancer is the second leading cause of death in children ages 1 to 14.

  • About 1,050 children under the age of 15 are expected to die from cancer in 2022.

  • Brain cancer is now the deadliest cancer in children, replacing leukemia thanks to advances in the treatment of blood cancers.

  • Each year in the U.S. an estimated 15,780 children between the ages of birth and 19 years of age are diagnosed with cancer.

  • Approximately 1 in 285 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer before their 20th birthday.

  • Globally, there are well over 400,000 cases of pediatric cancer.

  • Over the past 40 years, the overall survival rate for childhood cancer has increased from 10% to over 85. However,  the survival rate remains much lower for rare pediatric cancers.

Sadly, childhood cancer research remains vastly and consistently underfunded, despite these terrible statistics.

Nina, great event for an even better cause.   We had one in Parker last night, but don't believe I heard there was a cause.

Joan Cox hi Joan... we haven't had a Wine Walk since the pandemic. The last one supported women's cancer issues. Pediatric cancer is just such a terrible thing... it's one reason Chris and I support St Jude's.

Hi Nina,
Well, dang, you made me start the day off by crying!  I concur with what Grant Schneider said. It is so heartbreaking to see those sweet innocent children (and their families) going through cancer.

I can't do the Wine Walk, but I'm willing to sponsor someone who can... or just send a donation.

As a side note, one of our granddaughters received the benefit of treatment at Shriner's hospital for some bone deformities when she was small. What a blessing that was.

Carol Williams words are simply not enough when you see kids and their parents dealing with cancer. We support St Jude's for that very reason... but the Shriners Hospitals also do amazing work with kids.

Show me ads for these organizations and for pet shelters and I start crying, too.

Nina- this is a cause I could get behind. Our friend's granddaughter was diagnosed with cancer over a year ago. She is doing ok but I know there are so many more children who need help.
