SALES TAX HOLIDAY SHOPPING WEEKEND 2022 IN CHARLOTTE REGION
MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR AUGUST 5-7!
Is there anyone who wants to pay more taxes than they need to? Who wouldn't want to save some money on taxes? The South Carolina 2022 tax holiday weekend arrives this Friday just in time for back to school shopping!
You may have heard that school supplies this year are costing almost 40% more than last year. The average family is expected to spend up to $864 dollars for school supplies for the upcoming school year. For families with children attending college, we are looking at an expenditure of about $1,199 this year. That's a big hit to many family budgets. In past years shoppers in South Carolina have saved over $2 million in taxes by shopping during the tax holiday weekend.
If you'd like to save some money on taxes and live in the Charlotte metro area, you can take advantage of South Carolina's sales tax holiday this weekend starting this Friday, August 5th through Sunday, August 5th. You can shop tax-free for school supplies, clothing, computers and accessories for 72 hours. On-line purchases also qualify for the tax free benefit. Tax-free items can be new or used and are eligible regardless of price.
Tax-free items include computers, printers, school supplies, clothing and accessories, footwear, and certain bed and bath items. These tax-free items can be new or used and are eligible regardless of price. On-line purchases of eligible items are also tax-free this weekend.
Items that are not tax-free during the Sales Tax Holiday include digital cameras, smartphones, jewelry, cosmetics, eyewear, wallets, watches, furniture, rental clothing or footwear, and items for use in a trade or business.

6 Tips To Make The Most Of Your Tax-Free Weekend Shopping
1. Take some time to research what is tax free.
2. Don’t assume only back-to-school items are tax free.
3. Get organized before you set out to shop. Take an inventory of what you have on hand and what you need. Make a list of what you want and need to buy.
4. Make sure the tax free savings outweigh savings from other types of coupons. And don’t forget that many coupons can be combined with tax free savings.
5. Watch the register closely to be sure you are getting the tax savings you are entitled to. Verify on your receipt that you did not pay sales tax after the purchase.
6. Know your prices and make certain that something really is a deal. Don’t buy something just because it is tax-free.
