I'll let you guess if I am being truthful or pulling a fish story with my responses. Hint - I am consistent with my answers.
1. We all go on vacation to get away from it all and have a great time, but I want to know, what vacation day was your worst?
When I was 19 my boyfriend (became my husband) and I traveled in Europe for two months in the summer. We decided to take the train north as far as it would go through Sweden into Narvik, Norway. After an afternoon in Narvik, we went to the train station to return to Uppsala Sweden where we were staying - but we misread the schedule and had to leave the train in Kiruna Sweden - which is a coal mining town. There was nothing there outside of some apartment buildings and no train until 5 am the next morning (they wouldn't let us stay in the station). We were above the Arctic Circle and although summer, it was cold when the sun went down. We spent the night in a phone booth trying to keep warm. A miserable night.
2. What would be your bucket list vacation or, if you have already taken it, tell us about it? Pictures encouraged.
Still waiting to go to Pompeii. A trip there has been on my bucket list since I first heard about it as a child. I love archeology and digging around in museums along with hiking and seeing nature at its most beautiful.
3. If your ActiveRain friends were to visit you, would you prepare dinner for them or would you take them to the best pizza joint in town? What would you make or where would you go?
I would make pizza at home. After our long Saturday hikes, my husband makes homemade pizza and whether or not there is meat on that pizza is based on how hard our hike was. He makes amazing pizza.
4. We all know that Canadian bacon and pineapple are the best toppings for any pizza. If you can’t have those toppings on your pizza, what would you choose?
I beg to differ on Canadian bacon and pineapple. I much prefer pesto sauce, goat cheese, fried onions, a little bacon and arugula (the arugula is added after the pizza is out of the oven).
5. What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
I don't eat much ice cream anymore, but who can say no to double chocolate?
6. What is your beverage of choice with dinner; beer, wine, iced tea, a cocktail, or …..?
Wine.
7. Do you prefer going to a concert, the theater, or a big sporting event? Who or what would you be watching?
I love the theater and used to have annual subscriptions to Broadway in Portland when these great shows would come to town. This disappeared with Covid - and the crime now in downtown Portland; the theater is really close to the crime centers.
8. There are so many great festivals across the country. Is there a special one in your area? Pictures are encouraged.
My brokerage (I own it) was the title sponsor for Bite of Bend for two years before Covid shut it down. It was an amazing event with an Iron Chef competition, mixology contests, many food vendors serving "bites", the beer run, concerts and over 25,000 attendees each weekend. I miss the event!
9. What is your greatest sporting accomplishment, hitting a hole in one, bowling a perfect game, hitting the game winning shot, etc.? If you do not enjoy athletics, what is your greatest accomplishment?
I married my high school sweetheart. At a high school date with him, we played miniature golf with the last hole a tall pyramid with the hole at the top - an almost impossible shot. I asked him what he would give me if I made the hole in one. He said "anything you want." Although I was not a good golfer, I made that impossible shot and got what I wanted - a lifetime with him.
10. Are you a pet person? If so, names and pictures are a must!
I love cats and grew up with them. Unfortunately, my husband is allergic and we do not have pets. However, my daughter and son have more than made up for their lack with my daughter having 4 dogs and a cat and my son 3 dogs. My daugher loves big dogs - here are her two great danes and the puppy which is a dane/English mastiff mix.
11. What is your favorite thing to collect, or do you prefer to keep things simple and clutter free? Or what is your decorating style?
I use to collect books as I have been an avid reader. Now I have no time for that, expect when I travel. I really miss it!
12. What job did you have just prior to making the switch to real estate and has it helped you in your real estate career? (Courtesy of Jeff Dowler, CRS)
I was raising my three children, teaching fitness classes, and assisting my husband in his general contracting. The last definitely helped me with my real estate in that I have an expertise with new construction and understand what is required within our state to legally build.
13. When you are writing on ActiveRain, who is your audience and why did you choose them for your audience? (Courtesy of Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400)
I write to share blogs I post on our company website. I try to draw more traffic to our site and have the #1 SEO position for Bend Oregon Real Estate market trends - over everyone else. My hiking blogs are also highly seen and they draw traffic to our website as well.
14. What makes you the real estate agent of choice in your area?
I am not the real estate agent of choice as I am the managing Principal Broker of my brokerage and I don't compete. However, my brokerage is the very best with highly skilled professionals with years of experience who I truly enjoy working with.
15. What is the most outrageous action that a client has ever asked you to perform?
Our clients know better than to ask us to do anything unethical.
16. We show a lot of homes in our profession. What is the most interesting home or, item in a home, that you have encountered?
One of our female agents got a listing of a home owned by a man with a huge number of guns. His strange actions made her extremely uncomfortable and she turned the listing over to a male colleague. He was successful in closing the transaction, but always watched the client carefully when in his presence. The neighbors were all thrilled when the home finally closed and the client moved.
17. What are your three favorite neighborhoods in your area and what makes them special? Are you lucky enough to live in one of those neighborhoods?
Awbrey Butte, Broken Top, Downtown Bend. Awbrey Butte, mostly developed in the 1990's, commands fabulous Cascade views. The drawback is the trip up and down the butte in winter can be dangerous and difficult with icy streets. Broken Top, a golf community, was where my husband focused much of his building career and I am touched to think about his homes existing long after he is gone. Downtown Bend has history with old mill cottages (command a lot of money now) and historic estates previously owned by mill owners are the oldest housing in Bend and I enjoy their craftsman look. I personally live away from these communities and do enjoy the separation from work.
18. We all love client testimonials, but is there one that really made you feel special? We would love to see it.
I have been a broker for the past 5 years, and worked in several real estate offices. The environment at Bend Premier is The Best. Our principal broker Lynnea Miller, and the administration staff are so employee and customer service focus it truly is a joy to work here. We share best practices, there is always an open door policy, and you genuinely feel what you do is important, and you are valued! I am very thankful and grateful to be part of the "Bend Premier" real estate team! First class, client focused, with a true spirit of excellence! -Jacque Martini Roberts

19. What is your favorite volunteer work or charity?
I give to my church and the Salvation Army. One of our brokers just started a charity and I am anxious to see how that progresses.
20. What does the flag represent to you?
Freedom and opportunity. No wonder thousands of people legally and illegally come here every year.
21. When we discuss life, my dad always says he is not sure what he would like to be when he grows up. He is 77! What do you want to be when you grow up or are you already in your perfect profession?
I am long grown up and am doing the profession I am meant to do. I enjoy my job and do it well.
