ActiveRain Challenge: Truth or Dare…What Do You Think?

Whether you participate or not, it’s fun reading the answers to these questions. Please head over to Truth or Dare, Fish Stories, and Our August Challenge cohosted by Ray Henson and Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400 .

  1. We all go on vacation to get away from it all and have a great time, but I want to know, what vacation day was your worst?

In September 1979, we were in the Bahamas on a trip with the company I worked for. Except for 2, the whole company was on the trip. Hurricane David hit…we went through a full-fledged hurricane and a tornado! This was before the days of smartphones!

We were also delayed returning to Houston. Part of our company placed temporary employees who are paid weekly. We had to get back. Our owner “arranged” for us to skip ahead of many people who’d been waiting for days to leave.
  2. What would be your bucket list vacation or, if you have already taken it, tell us about it?  Pictures encouraged.
I suppose my bucket list vacation would be an African photo safari.
  3. If your ActiveRain friends were to visit you, would you prepare dinner for them or would you take them to the best pizza joint in town?  What would you make or where would you go?
Houston is known for its love of food. It would be hard for me to choose one Tex-Mex place but we would go there as well as for Texas barbecue.
  4. We all know that Canadian bacon and pineapple are the best toppings for any pizza.  If you can’t have those toppings on your pizza, what would you choose?
Cheese, mushrooms, green peppers and anchovies!!!
  5. What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
    Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Therapy.
  6. What is your beverage of choice with dinner; beer, wine, iced tea, a cocktail, or …..?
    Club soda and lime

  7. Do you prefer going to a concert, the theater, or a big sporting event?  Who or what would you be watching?
I loved going to all of them when I was younger and the crowds weren’t so bad. We had season tickets to Broadway shows in Houston. However, going to an NFL game would be tops for me. When the Texans played the Dolphins in Miami, our friend who worked for the Texans took us on the field pre-game. I thought I’d died and gone to Heaven.

  1. There are so many great festivals across the country.  Is there a special one in your area? Pictures are encouraged.
I don’t know if you could call the Houston Rodeo a festival but it’s huge!!!
  2. What is your greatest sporting accomplishment, hitting a hole in one, bowling a perfect game, hitting the game winning shot, etc.?  If you do not enjoy athletics, what is your greatest accomplishment?
As much as I love sports, I’m a huge klutz. When I was taking tennis lessons, I hit the ball across two courts and managed to hit Larry who was sitting at a table.

  3. 10. Are you a pet person?  If so, names and pictures are a must!
We love dogs but are currently without fur babies.  But our favorites were our Brittanys.

  1. What is your favorite thing to collect, or do you prefer to keep things simple and clutter free? Or what is your decorating style?
I collect miniatures. I have a miniature store and a miniature room in a big bird cage. When I lived in FL I had about 150 orchids but gave most of them away when we moved to Northern VA.
  2. What job did you have just prior to making the switch to real estate and has it helped you in your real estate career?  (Courtesy of Jeff Dowler, CRS)
I staffed companies with office support staff in Houston, When we moved to FL, I placed nannies and housekeepers. What I learned was how to deal with people.
  3. When you are writing on ActiveRain, who is your audience and why did you choose them for your audience? (Courtesy of Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400)
As I am now retired…I write for anyone who reads this.
  4. What makes you the real estate agent of choice in your area?
Not an agent but if I were it would be because I learned everything here at ActiveRain.

  5. What is the most outrageous action that a client has ever asked you to perform?
When I was in Delray, a client wanted me to stage one of his apartments for a photo shoot. He owned several sober homes in the area including about half a dozen large apartments. He wanted to showcase some of the rooms on his website. I was tempted but after seeing what the apartments really looked like and what he wanted to portray on his website, I couldn’t in good faith offer my services.

  6. We show a lot of homes in our profession.  What is the most interesting home or, item in a home, that you have encountered?
I consulted on a home and the most memorable object was an Oscar.

  7. What are your three favorite neighborhoods in your area and what makes them special?  Are you lucky enough to live in one of those neighborhoods?
The areas have changed considerably since we returned in 2019. We live just outside Houston proper in Cypress where the traffic is less and we have access to all of the amenities that Houston offers.
  8. We all love client testimonials, but is there one that really made you feel special?  We would love to see it.
Perhaps not a testimonial but I worked with an investor who brought me in at the beginning of projects to ask my opinion. That was high praise for me.
  9. What is your favorite volunteer work or charity?
Our favorite charity is Give Kids the World in Orlando. Right now, Larry and I volunteer to monitor and care for the bluebird boxes at Kickerillo.

  10. What does the flag represent to you?
It represents my home, my country, and all the things I love.
  11. When we discuss life, my dad always says he is not sure what he would like to be when he grows up.  He is 77!  What do you want to be when you grow up or are you already in your perfect profession?
First of all, Ray, if your dad is 77, then I am almost old enough to be your mother. I don’t think I’ll ever grow up but hope to keep getting wiser and better.

Hi Kathy,
I love that you are a big sports fan. I don't feel so alone. LOL   Like Kat Palmiotti , I laughed at the tennis story.  Chocolate Therapy ice cream? I didn't even know there was such a thing! This should be covered in our medical insurance policies. 😊

Good morning Kathy -  I may have an even harder time answering some of the real estate agent questions.  Wow, being in the temp help business and not being able to be on hand when really needed because you are stuck too in the storm.

Seriously Kathy - you hit the ball across 2 courts and just happened to hit Larry sitting at a table.  Now that's a wild and funny story!  Love your answers!

Hi Brian England it was just before the game so we observed only. I think it was his first year with the Texans!  Honestly, I was like a kid in a candy store. Of course, now you guys have JJ.

Oh good Wayne Martin I can't wait to read your answers.

Nina Hollander, Broker I'm amazed at how we got the information we needed for our departure despite the fact that in 1979 we didn't have smartphones to text each other. Larry and I miss our dogs so much but are still not ready to have another pet.

Bill Salvatore - East Valley I'm not a huge pizza fan but I love the anchovies on my slice.

Joan Cox it was totally unexpected and I know the seller let me take a picture of it but for the life of me I can't find it.

Carol Williams I'm not a big fan of Ben & Jerry's but if you like dark chocolate, get a pint of Chocolate Therapy.

Exactly Grant Schneider  I was on the permanent placement side but I know that the temp side was going nuts. Keep in mind this was in 1979 so we didn't have the technology and apps that exist today.

Dorie Dillard Austin TX I'm still a Blue Bell Ice Cream person but I rarely eat ice cream. Chocolate Therapy is my favorite.

So my father and mother had me when they were very young, 18, and most people say we look more like brothers.  You are old enough to be my sister!  Thank you for a great entry and I hope we get a chance to watch an NFL game sometime together.  I love football! ! !
