Dear Sellers - Don't Take it so Personal!

By

There are conversations during the transaction, especially during the inspection period, that can hurt a Seller's feelings.   Don't wear your feelings on your sleeve!

A home is a Seller's castle, and they are usually very proud of their home.   When buyers share their feelings about a home can be hurtful.   BUT, there is not a home out there where probably the buyer won't be changing something to fit their tastes.

Rather than feeling hurt, know what you would like your bottom line to look like (being reasonable) and know you will sell your home.   Today's market has slowed and there are fewer buyers out right now.

Hello Joan - real estate can be fraught with emotions.   Keeping things in perspective is important but may not always be "easy peasy".

Good morning again, Joan... I'm always telling my sellers that an offer price or inspection results/repair request are not personal insults. They are just doors opening to a negotiation and the sooner we take the emotion out of it, the sooner we get to a place both they and buyers are comfortable with.

Nina Hollander, Broker we do have to defuse the emotions and get to the negotiations, and get the goal achieved.

Excellent advice!  We currently sold our family home and the buyers changed everything but I thought it was exciting how they personalized it to fit their taste.  Hope you have a fabulous day!

This is good advice to share. Hopefully, their listing agent will have told them what to expect.

One of the reasons why using an agent is a good idea. An agent acts as an intermediary who can temper a buyers comments with a little dose of reality and bring everyone together.

Roy, with so much to share, I know I forget until we hear unfavorable comments, THEN you talk to them about this.

Nick, there are times I NEVER share what the buyer's agent says, it isn't relevant.    But phrase it differently to my seller.

Hi Joan- it's not an easy thing to do but sellers have to view their house as a product they are marketing. We put a wooden hot tub and deck in our first home. When we were selling it, the buyers wanted to know if they could remove it if they bought it. I told the agent, when they  buy it, they can do anything they want with it.

Those are tough sellers to work with when they can't see the other side and get offended easily when a prospective buyer doesn't like their home.

Brian, have had my fair share of sellers who get their feelings hurt easily.
