August AR Challenge Part 1: Truth or Dare

Another fun challenge to tickle the brain, getting us to think outside of our every day activities. Of course, I will be using the imagination and pulling at the muscle memory for some of these questions. Here we go!

1.  We all go on vacation to get away from it all and have a great time, but I want to know, what vacation day was your worst?

While in Florida with Michael and the boys, we wanted to get Dip 'n Dots. After pulling into the parking lot, several police cars converged with flashing lights. They stopped, jumped out, pulled their weapons and rushed into the building.

It was getting robbed at gunpoint right at that moment. Scary and no Dip 'n Dots for us. Had we gotten there 5 minutes earlier, we would have been inside.

Thankfully, we weren't!

2.  What would be your bucket list vacation or, if you have already taken it, tell us about it?  Pictures encouraged.

Nashville was a dream come true that translated well from expectation to fruition. From the lively entertainment at every turn, to the musical venues that included museums and other places of interest, it was a well-rounded vacation. The food was truly southern, the BBQ, flavorful!

A side trip to Graceland to visit The King, Elvis Presley fulfilled a childhood dream as well. We were able to see the well rounded version of this superstar, a family man who lived much simpler than imagined, loved his daughter to no end, was very generous when giving to special causes and charities.

3.  If your ActiveRain friends were to visit you, would you prepare dinner for them or would you take them to the best pizza joint in town?  What would you make or where would you go?

Eating a home-made meal at the Silo is better than any restaurant. Michael and I would prepare a steak on the Traeger, salad made with fresh ingredients from the garden and Mexican corn. Dessert is vanilla pudding made that same day!

4.  We all know that Canadian bacon and pineapple are the best toppings for any pizza.  If you can’t have those toppings on your pizza, what would you choose?

Taco Pizza has been a favorite for many, many years. It starts with mild taco sauce on the crust, then ground burger and onions, cheddar and mozzarella cheese, baked, then topped with fresh lettuce and tomatoes.

5.  What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Banana Walnut

6.  What is your beverage of choice with dinner; beer, wine, iced tea, a cocktail, or …..?

Most of the time, I will have water with my meal. If out for a nice meal, then a glass of wine or a flight of sparkling, white or red wines (totals 6 ounces). I do enjoy an ice cold beer while dining at the Silo with My Honey!

7.  Do you prefer going to a concert, the theater, or a big sporting event?  Who or what would you be watching?

Concerts have always been a part of my life. The first one was the Beach Boys in CU Stadium in Colorado back when I was 16 years old. A few years ago, we went to hear the Eagles play and that was amazing!

Now, we have bands play in our back yard during special occasions and call them Silobrations.

8.  There are so many great festivals across the country.  Is there a special one in your area? Pictures are encouraged.

The St. George Arts Festival has been a favorite venue for me since moving here in 1996. Local and out-of-area artisans showcase their creative talents in the form of metal work, paintings, pottery, jewelry and so much more!

Musical entertainment day and night and a diverse array of food choices that will cure the hunger pangs.

9.  What is your greatest sporting accomplishment, hitting a hole in one, bowling a perfect game, hitting the game winning shot, etc.?  If you do not enjoy athletics, what is your greatest accomplishment?

A hole in one shot with sons, Sebastian and Spensyr at Dixie Red Hills golf course back when they were younger. We couldn't find my ball until walking up on the green and looking into the hole. We were all ecstatic!

10.  Are you a pet person?  If so, names and pictures are a must!

Of course! We have had a variety of wonderful companions through the years, from dogs, cats to pot-bellied pigs, roosters and chickens. We recently lost Slinky Cat the morning I left to help our son and family in Houston. Have not had time to grieve yet but miss that sweet, lovable, playful, furry friend.

11.  What is your favorite thing to collect, or do you prefer to keep things simple and clutter free? Or what is your decorating style?

We like to collect items for our Silo and the Silo Stage as reminders of places we travel. We have an extensive collection of shot glasses and bottle openers. My husband has a signed NASCAR collection of the #18 driver, Kyle Busch.

12.  What job did you have just prior to making the switch to real estate and has it helped you in your real estate career?  (Courtesy of Jeff Dowler, CRS)

The last salaried position held before jumping into real estate full time was a Marketing and Advertising professional for a high-end builder. Loved it and the skills are still put to use in my real estate career.

13.  When you are writing on ActiveRain, who is your audience and why did you choose them for your audience? (Courtesy of Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400)

I write for potential buyers and sellers, people who garden, fellow agents (newbies as well), to give inspiration some days to those who may need it. My blog is very diverse and is genuinely me!

14.  What makes you the real estate agent of choice in your area?

Am a full-time, hands on real estate agent and truly care about my clients because Wanda Can and does!

15.  What is the most outrageous action that a client has ever asked you to perform?

When under contract with client's, it's best not to tell all about some things that take place during the journey. Confidentiality and loyalty is very important to me and I do care about those who put their trust in me.

16.  We show a lot of homes in our profession.  What is the most interesting home or, item in a home, that you have encountered?

Dolls....there were 100's of dolls in all sizes, shapes, origins in every single room of this house that clients and I walked into one day, including the bathrooms and kitchen, everywhere! The buyer husband walked out once getting to the living room, saying he'd meet us outside! Seller refused to box them up prior to listing.

17.  What are your three favorite neighborhoods in your area and what makes them special?  Are you lucky enough to live in one of those neighborhoods?

  • Out of any neighborhood in the southern Utah area, I like mine the best because it is in a preferred, outlying area,  allowing us to garden and land between neighbors. We like to listen to music without disturbing anyone around us.

  • If I lived downtown in a planned, gated community, I most likely would choose Stone Cliff because the homesites are larger, allowing a buffer between houses, the common areas impeccably maintained and the views are magnificent!

  • Another choice would be the Cliffs of Snow Canyon. The architectural style is modern adobe, HOA dues are low and the views are of the red rock bluffs with walking trails nearby and located near many necessary conveniences.

18.  We all love client testimonials, but is there one that really made you feel special?  We would love to see it.

This one is dear to me because trust was earned after helping them realize the house they wanted was not for them. He did not like or trust agents because of prior bad dealings and told me that, I was determined to do the best possible to change his mind and I did.

They have referred me multiple times to their friends and family members!

19.  What is your favorite volunteer work or charity?

I have volunteered time and given to so many through the years. When the boys were growing up we'd go to Dixie Advantages, a place for people who have Down Syndrome that are given day jobs, washing, ironing and folding restaurant linens. We would give out candy at Halloween, visit as the Easter Bunny and occasionally during the summer, hand out ice cream cones at lunchtime.

Now, I give to Primary Children's Hospital because they saved my Grandboy's life. Kodah was diagnosed with Congenital Adrenal Hypoplasia after an emergency room visit and two life flights. They reached out to other professionals worldwide and found the very doctor that wrote the study on his rare condition.

20.  What does the flag represent to you?

America's flag represents selfless sacrifice of countless lives that were lost in conflict. Some very young, bloodlines obliterated because they stepped up to defend the United States of America, families left to grieve their loved ones.

It is also a symbol of freedom, hope and promise that other countries can only wish to have. It means being patriotic to the core, loving this country over all others and protecting it from enemies foreign and domestic. I love 'Ole Glory!

21.  When we discuss life, my dad always says he is not sure what he would like to be when he grows up.  He is 77!  What do you want to be when you grow up or are you already in your perfect profession?

Always wanted to work for Hallmark, designing greeting cards. Never happened but I still create my own cards for any occasion and also design and mail full size cards out to past and clients. They are well received!

At 45, I began a new career in real estate and am where intended!

A special thanks to Ray Henson and Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400 for hosting this month's challenge! This is an entry to: Truth or Dare, Fish Stories and Our August Challenge.

We were very lucky that timing allowed us to miss that exciting event, Will Hamm. The rest of the trip went well, especially getting married to My Honey in Kissimmee!

Hi Wanda- I can't think of any 5 star restaurant that could top dinner at the Silo with fresh produce from Nerdin Gardens!!!  And, let's not forget the wonderful hostess. And that vacation you took with your family is frightening to read about!!!

Will be making Philly Cheesesteak Stuffed Green Peppers again with bell peppers from the garden again soon. It's such a delicious meal and easy to make, Kathy Streib! That day was terrifying for all of us, just glad no one was hurt and the robber was carted off to jail! All we wanted was a sweet treat.

I Googled Dip ‘n Dots – now I know! What timing!  I agree eating a homemade meal is better than any restaurant provided the chef knows how to cook. We know you know how to cook! Taco pizza sound great, minus the meat for me. YUM.  You found your ball in the hole – too funny! I am sorry for the loss of Slinky Cat. I learned more about you by reading this Miss Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Wanda Can!

Missed this comment, Anna Banana Kruchten CRS, Phoenix Broker. I still enjoy an occasional container of the banana split Dip 'n Dots, they are tasty little balls that melt on the tongue. Yum!

We are so very thankful that the doctors put forth a valiant effort to save our tiny tot, Kodah. I so appreciate your thoughtfulness sweet friend. He is such a joyous one and love him beyond words!

We were so lucky to avoid a potential, life-altering experience, Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist. We enjoy cooking at home, that way, we know exactly what is in the recipes and can add to, if necessary.

Every morning, I look for that sweet kitty and am thankful that we were chosen to be Slinky Cat's family for the brief time spent together!
